State Senator Dave Schultheis (R-Colorado Springs) said on the floor of the Colorado State Senate yesterday that he opposes a bill requiring HIV testing be available for pregnant mothers because he thinks the idea "stems from sexual promiscuity for the most part." When given the opportunity to clarify, Schultheis said this to the Rocky Mountain News:
"What I'm hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that. The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior."
That's not a misprint. Sen. Schultheis actually told a reporter he hopes babies get AIDS. Senator Schultheis has the right to say whatever he wishes. And we also have the First Amendment right to respond to him and tell him and reject his insane, extremist views.
Tell Dave Schultheis what you think!
