That IS the strategy

Whether the President's strategy in Iraq is a failure is all a matter of perspective. From his point of view, it is accomplishing exactly what he intends-- an indefinite occupation of Iraq for the purposes of securing the country's oil and creating a permanent, strategic military presence in the Middle East, regardless of the cost in American and Iraqi lives.

From another perspective, which I share, the President's "strategy" is not just a failure, not just irresponsible, not just foolish, but is immoral and bordering on criminal.

The cynical machinations of the Democratic leadership have hardly been any better. They have no strategy either, except to avoid taking the responsibility that the voters gave them in the last election.

Is it going to take mass protest in the streets before our elected leaders get the point and end this war? Bush & Co. are betting that won't happen.

Can we really afford to wait until 2009 in hopes that a new administration will take a different course? Don't hold your breath!

No Turn on Iraq Until 2009, Udall Predicts??? So why doesn't he resist Bush?
By John H Kennedy Sep 12th 2007 at 2:48 pm EDT
According to this article on Colorado Confidential No Turn on Iraq Until 2009, Udall predicts

Link

We are going to see more Democratic foot dragging on stopping the Iraq War now... while the Democrats try to blame it all on the GOP.

This is a dangerous game. Eventually the bulk of the voters will begin to understand that the Democrats are just playing "framing and positioning" games for personal political benefit in Nov. 2008.

While this posturing plays out, perhaps an additional 1,000 American Soldiers will Die and be Maimed unnecessarily. And thousands of Iraqis.

Udall says that only one way exists to stop the Iraq War before 2009 and that is if the Republicans all go to Bush and tell him to capitulate. Like that is going to happen anytime soon.

If Udall and all other Colorado Democrats in the House Democratic "Majority" would first stick together and themselves all vote to stop the funding there would be a much better chance that some Republicans would join them.

They have their power. They need to stop blaming the GOP for their own failure to stick together on Iraq funding.

Blaming the Republicans for what the Majority House Democrats have failed to do seems like a con.

Udalls ducking of Impeachment hasn't exactly endeared him to me either.

I get my Civil Rights From the Constitution,
not from either the Democrats or Republicans.

Like all other congressmen Udall took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and "domestic".

It is past time for Udall to be supporting Impeachment Of Cheney (H Res 333).

The first instruction he received as a congressman was to protect the Constitution.

My feeling is real patriots defend the document that protects us all, the Constitution. The separation of powers is critical.

If Udall won't protect the Constitution why should voters believe that he will protect the voters interests after he becomes a Senator.

If he doesn't care about protecting the voters Rights Under The Constitution NOW... why would he behave differently after he is elected.

Many supposedly liberal congressman seem to shift considerably to the right after moving to the Senate. Udall seems to be drifting to the right now. The time to get his attention is now, before he is elected Senator.

The activist groups that are actively involved in rally, vigils, and protests against the Iraq War need to Wake Up and

Support Impeachment.

The threat of Impeachment is what got Nixon moving toward winding down the Vietnam War sooner.

I know "well known" Peace & Justice Group Leaders that simply will not let the word Impeachment pass their lips, yet they claim to care about soldiers lives and say they want to stop the war soonest. Yet they avoid Impeachment like it is a plague.

It is past time for the P&J and anti-war community to get solidly behind Impeachment.

Impeachment is the tool given to us by the Constitution to enable us to stop out of control Executive Branch members like Bush and Cheney.

You don't want to have to explain to your children or grandchildren why you didn't help protect the Constitution.
