Part of ProgressNow Colorado's mission is to counter the right-wing message machine, and invariably that really ticks off the far-right and the unfortunate souls who actually believe the likes of the leader of the Republican Party, Rush Limbaugh.

Earlier this week, I sent out a message to our members in the 4th Congressional District that seems to have struck a nerve. We asked folks to sign our thank-you card to Representative Betsy Markey for her leadership and favorable vote on the House climate change bill known as "ACES."

Here's a sampling of the hate mail I received from the far right. Particularly interesting is the misogynistic tone many of them took. I wonder if they speak to their wives and mothers like this? Names and addresses removed to protect the moronic...spelling and grammar errors left intact.

I did not vote for little miss Markey and she does not reprerssent me in any. I have campaigned against her in the past and intend to every opportunity I get. She is voting to destroy the free enterprise system in America that will lead to a totalitarian socialist state. With her in office we are the USSA. The Union of Socialist States of America. If you are sending these stupid messages to make me angry, You failed. She and the "progressive" nonsense you are enchanted with are losers. I just hate to be taken down with you. To use your vacabulary, it sucks.

Really? Losers? Seems to me she won in a landslide, and the only loser is Marilyn Musgrave who refused to concede until she did so in a robocall to Georgia voters.

Ms. Markey is SUPPOSED to represent ALL of her constituents, including the right wing ideological ones like me. You are stupid to think that her support of the CESA
will result in anything except higher prices and less resources. I use the word stupid because you have to be belligerently unwilling to face the economic reality of this bill to believe it will have any other effect. That cost is inherently going to weaken our country, not only economically, but also put us at risk militarily. I also say you are stupid because you said, obviously without checking just how I voted. You are as wrong about that as you are about my having ANY inclination to thank her for her vote in this matter. Please remove me from your "narrow, right wing ideology of the past" group you wouldn't want to send email too.

In America, it's impossible to check how someone voted, even after all the privacy protections Bush and his lapdog Congress took away from us. If you think it should have been possible for me to look up how you voted, perhaps you should have lobbied Marilyn Musgrave for a Constitutional amendment banning the right to a democratic election. Constitutional amendments banning things were her specialty, after all.

I didn't elect Betsy Markey!!! We have more oil in ND then is in Arabia! Is she in favor of pumping and developing it??? NO !!!! We have oil in CO and Alaska and she is not in favor of developing it!! Don't tell me she is interested in the people of CO!! If she thought anything about the people she would do things for our betterment and not the things she has done!!!

Never mind the fact that you completely missed the point of the bill, I think you should actually ask the good Congresswoman what she is in favor of rather than making assumptions.

If you idiots would actually read the bill, you'd be writing to Markey and saying why did you Vote for this......!!!!!!!! To give 3 years worth of unemployment to every person who may loose their job because of this bill........To send billions overseas so people won't cut down their trees.....And then 300+ pages that no one bothered to read before passing this 'largest tax increase in years' as stated by Wall Street Journal.
This bill is so far off from what it should be doing, it is utterly worthless to us as citizens except to cost us up to $3000 more per household per year in utilities. It doesn't control carbon emissions it is just a huge tax bill for all of us. You must really enjoy paying taxes, because that's all that will be accomplished with this damned bill.
