Right here, right now, your country is escalating a war in Iraq with soldiers who don’t have the proper equipment with a mission with no achievable military solution.  Last fall the Iraq Study Group composed entirely of Iraq Hawks laid out a last ditch plan to solve the disaster that the Bush/Cheney administration created in the Middle East.

Instead of following the recommendations of the bipartisan ISG, Bush instead opted for a “bet the house” strategy of escalating the war in Iraq and brinksmanship with Iran.  The escalation of the occupation of Iraq is bound for failure.  The saber rattling with Iran is destined for a total calamity that could, as soon as the next few weeks, result in the biggest American disaster in the last 100 years.

There is almost nothing that we, as everyday active citizens, can do directly to stop this race to destruction.  We must strengthen the Steel in the backbones of our representatives in Congress.  They may be anti-escalation, but they need to know we’ve “got their back.”  Ken Salazer is cautiously opposing escalation. We need to let him know this is the time to be bold and yes, even partisan.

We need to let our representatives know at every level that they need to stand up for all the people who have voted them into office.  They need to speak on our behalf to the Colorado Congressional Delegation saying, “Stop this escalation!”, and block the onrushing drive to war with Iran.

While there will be a resolution introduced into the Colorado Senate, it saddens me considerably to report that the leadership of the Colorado House is taking a very unfavorable view of introducing the resolution in the House.  Vermont, California and Iowa have already passed anti-escalation resolutions in at least one legislative chamber.  Maryland, Maine, Minnesota and Connecticut have sent letters signed by legislators to their Congressional Delegation.  Jefferson, Eagle, Douglas, and Conejos county Democratic parties passed resolutions opposing the escalation at their re-org meetings.

Isn’t it time to make the voice of the people of Colorado heard loud and clear?  Please take a few moments to contact the leadership of the Colorado House to entreat them to join with the Senate and pass a joint resolution opposing the escalation in Iraq and the imminent attack on Iran.  If the Colorado legislature could pass a war support resolution four years ago and “Ronald Reagan Day” a couple weeks ago, they can certainly take a stand against a grave threat to the well being of the state of Colorado represented by this irresponsible escalation of war.
