The White House Project and ProgressNow held a press conference today to update folks on the Campaign to Draft Foxy. Frontier Airlines showed up with a statement from Foxy herself.
Watch the video of the press conference.
Text of Foxy's response to the Draft Foxy Committee:
My fellow countrymen... I am honored and humbled that over 600 people have asked me to run for "Denver's Favorite Animal". And I want the public to know that the age of "all male candidate elections" is long past us. In the year 2007, we demand a diverse field of candidates. This is a sentiment I whole-heartedly support.
That said, although I find the prospect of debating the likes of Jack the Rabbit and Grizwald the Bear amusing, I'm looking for something more.
Let's face it people: Denver's Favorite Animal is a popularity contest. And frankly, I prefer to leave popularity contests where they belong: In High School.
Instead, I'm setting my sights on a more meaningful office -- one that has the power to generate real political change.
And that's where The White House Project comes in. The White House Project inspires and encourages female candidates like me to run for office, and provides us with the tools we need to win. This year, I'll be attending The White House Project's Go Run training in Denver -- learning basic campaign skills like fundraising, communications and grassroots organizing, while becoming part of an influential network of mentors and colleagues. After my Go Run training, nothing will stop me from winning a seat in government.
So go ahead boys -- have fun duking it out for Denver's Favorite Animal. I've got bigger fish to fry.
No offense Flip.
