Today, I wrote my Senator...

Today, like everyday, I listened to and watched the news...
I checked my email...

I called my friend to make sure he made it back to Kansas alright. Selfishly, I called for me...not just for him. You see, he came home from Iraq for the second time just before the holidays...and when he is in Iraq, driving convoy, I cannot call to make sure my friend makes it back to his base "OK." I just hold my breath until he calls to "check in" and "ease my mind."

Today, I signed a petition and wrote Senator Allard...this is what I said:

Senator, I live in Colorado Springs and everyday witness the news of another soldier returning to the local army base, Fort Carson. These soldiers do not walk off the plane to the roaring cheers of friends and family. Instead, they are quietly carried off to the muffled tears of loved ones or fellow service men and women. For several weeks the President has spoke about the benefit of entertaining this troop surge. For years I have taken pause as the glow of funeral cars pass by with another victim of war. What use to be a trickle of spotted headlamps on my city streets has turned into a torrent of dead reality illuminating the need for change!

I Hope You Wrote Ken Salazar, Too

I hate to say that writing Allard is probably useless. However, you might make a difference if you write to Ken Salazar.

Thanks

Heather,

We all benefit from your account of the impact of the Iraq conflict at home. Yes, share your views with Senator Salazar, and even Congressman Lamborn.

While neither Lamborn nor Senator Allard are likely to accept a policy contrary to the current occupant of the White House, they must accept that dissent exists. If the Department of Defense wil not allow photographic reports of what you have seen, at least we have your written report.

I will...

Thank you both for your suggestions! I will! I will send this off to the other representitives. I guess I had to start somewhere and this morning it was with that petition I found in my inbox.

This was my first letter and petition in a very long time. I sure appreciate your responses.

They say the first time is the hardest! Keep it up! I hope the time comes soon when your friend and all our troops are home safe and well, for good.

You Have What IT Takes...

H, good summation of your views and descriptions of emoting movement. Senate and their offices need to hear from more of us like you who actually pay attention and give concern.

Action happens at the top when they listen to those of us on the bottom. Your vivid account may be a contribution motivational force for our Colorado Senators to stand up for change in direction.

Thanks,
>PEZ
