Check me out in the Rocky... again!

So my excitement about the political process hasn't waned since my first caucus training in January. If anything, I'm even more excited now. Like I keep telling people, it's never going to happen like this again... ever...

I have no idea what was going on with parking or the fire lane because I was able to walk to my location (yay! local politics) and I was in the building from 6-9:30pm. My favorite parts were when people talked about their personal experiences with the presidential campaigns and with the house district candidates. And people even brought their own resolutions to propose. Ahh! I love democracy (when I get to participate)!

I'd like to call out Susan the Neon Nurse. Any comments on the caucus. I haven't heard from you in a while.

Also, there should be an Election08 category. It's only going to heat up in the coming year.

Notes from precinct 0946

We met at Thomas Jefferson High School.
Huge turnout. Standing room only.

Seemed reasonably organized. The site manager had it under control.

We knew what precinct we were in so did not have to stand in line. Important. They moved a few of our precincts into separate rooms because of the mass of people in the TJ lunchroom. The parking lots were overflowing by the way. We had a little trouble moving the groups into the right rooms but it got done eventually. Once inside we elected the chair and secretary and moved on to the straw vote.

I had planned to hold out for Uncommitted but of the total in the room only 2 were uncommitted besides me and UC did not meet the 15% threshold so I and one other UC switched to Obama. Obama won by a huge margin.

The chair than allowed the people to either leave, take a break or stay for the senate vote and resolutions voting. This I thought was a Big Mistake. This allowed a lot of people to leave prematurely before the senate vote or the consideration of resolutions.

We moved into the next item, the senate vote and I and my wife were the only 2 Benner votes (hers was a pity vote to help me, thanks Dear) which did not meet the 15% threshold. When we elected Delegates I volunteered to be a delegate for Obama to the County Convention and was so chosen.

We moved in to the Resolutions votimg. And here I felt there was a strange thing. I was out of the room for a few seconds and somebody decided we could not discuss or explain the individual resolutions but just read them and quickly vote on them. So some failed due to being poorly worded or for lack of information.

Most of the Progressive Democrats resolutions passed Including an Impeachment resolution.

However, another weird thing, the PD resolution for adopting the 2006 CO Dem. Platform as the basis for the 2008 Platform failed because it apparently was not available for the voters to read. And they had apparently never read it before???

I felt regarding the resolutions that we were rushing to get the meeting over and it trivialized the resolution voting. I imagine that everyone just wanted to go home. I trusted the chair and secretary. No problem there.

I met some progressive activists that I did not previously know lived near me. Good thing. We are hoping to help staff the get out the vote effort for our precinct in the general election no matter who wins the nomination.

Hey, I commented to you on your last appearance in the Rocky!

The new one is even better! I will expect to be seeing you at the state convention!

I confess I have not posted here about the caucus because...well, PN seems like a more SERIOUS site than some, you know? But actually I was going to put something on tonight.

If you want to keep an eye on my political shenanigans, you should drop by codeneonblue.net now and then!
