Protect Longmont Taxpayers from a Bad Deal!

I'm sending this out to our original 880 petition signers, plus additional Longmont residents:
On August 14th, the Longmont City Council dismissed the concerns of
Longmont residents and annexed 348 acres in Weld County for the
LifeBridge/4C development. Too many questions remain unanswered! How much of the development is tax-exempt? What are the plans to
alleviate traffic congestion on CO-119? Who pays for water? Will our
schools become more overcrowded? What will happen to your property
values?
The citizens of Longmont have organized a referendum petition to
repeal the City Council's irresponsible action and get answers before
committing Longmont's taxpayers to a huge real estate development
contract.
The petition is approved and we are working to collect the 4,021 valid
signatures from Longmont voters. We have until September 25th to
collect signatures. We need your help! Here's what you can do:
- Sign the petition at any one of our many signing stations (for a
complete list of signing stations, visit
http://www.whatsinitforlongmont.org/wp/petition-signing-locations).
- Volunteer to staff a signing station or be a petition circulator (if
you're interested, contact Joan at joan.peck@gmail.com).
- Have even more fun and host a house party! We'll send a petition
circulator to you. (Contact Jen at jgartner@law.gwu.edu.)
Thanks for helping preserve Longmont's unique character! To stay on
top of this issue, visit www.whatsinitforlongmont.org or

Thanks again,
Jen

But -- OMG -- a CHURCH is involved! It must be evil! How dare they impose their religious values on land use! How dare they use their religious status for tax breaks! How dare they do exactly what a regular land developer would do...
City Council and much of the community spent years updating the City's comprehensive plan. It was a huge issue for the City to update and revise the plan. The plan was supposed to be used as an operational blueprint for how the City was to develop out. It took into account the jobs/housing ratio, transportation, open space and commercial development to name a few issues. Now it seems we are disregarding portions of our own plan. Why?
It is surprising to me that some people can't see we are loosing our City's charm and identity by approving this development, regardless of who the owner of the development is.
