"To expect the public to become educated enough to make a reasonable decision...is ridiculous." ~ Longmont Mayor Julia Pirnack, quoted in the Times-Call, 9/6/2007.

It sure is nice to know that our elected officials think so highly of our cognitive abilities!

Greed is Good

Julia Pirnak's view of Longmont residents is consistent with her approach toward running for mayor; don't confuse the dumb little people by discussing any complex issues whilst promoting housing sprawl at all costs.

Longmont resident's are no more than pawns in her mind--people you can scam for $ without really have to get to know them or spend time with.

I don't take her comments in the same way

I don't take Mayor Pirnack's comments as arrogant at all. I think it is a very complex issue. How many citizens do you know will slog through the mountains of paperwork to understand the ins and outs of it? That's what the City Council's job is.

I grew up in Colorado and it makes me sick to see the Front Range overpopulate like it is. But with or without benefit to Longmont, this project is going to happen.

Mayor Pirnack's letter explaining everything changed my mind on the issue. Let's at least get some benefit for the city out of this unwelcome growth.

I think we as citizens feel so powerless at times that we sometimes have a "knee-jerk" reaction of opposing ANY government action, even when it is the better course.

It's important as citizens to be informed about issues. It is difficult to do so.

I'm glad the Mayor took the time to lay it all out in her letter.

Check out Karen Benker's guest opinion in today's Times-Call. It really refutes a lot of what the mayor said.
