Paccione Project wraps up

A group of folks from Boulder County decided earlier this year to do some work out in Longmont to try and help get Angie Paccione get elected for Colorado's 4th Congressional District.
Along the way, we received some local press attention. In the past month, enough volunteers showed up every Saturday morning so that as of today, the Paccione Project completed its goals.
This morning saw about 30 people show up and we needed all of them because we walked in three precincts.
More below.
The Paccione Project adopted approximately 20 orphan precincts - precincts without captains. Most of the precincts we walked were in relatively new subdivisions. Longmont has really grown in the past 5 years or so and there was a general lack of organization between all the new people.
I met a lot of dedicated citizens working with this project. To begin with, the two organizers were phenomenal. They helped start the planning for this about 10 months ago and haven't let up since.
To everybody I walked with: a big thank you! I'm fairly new at political activism, but something I've picked up in a short time span is that face-to-face contact is important. It's time consumings, but I believe it does make a difference. Many potential voters I spoke with thanked me for taking the time to knock on their doors since no one else had.
As I stated in my previous Project diary, I think projects like this could be beneficial to the party. Denver and Boulder are pretty safe Dem areas, with variations depending on the race. I would love to see more people take some time and help out nearby areas that don't have Dem representation in a more organized fashion, even in small groups of a half-dozen. I think these kinds of voter outreach efforts could do wonders for revitalizing Dems in districts like the 4th. We all know how much better off we would be with more friendly representation in D.C. (If organized projects similar to this one do exist, I'm unaware of them. If there are efforts underway, let us know!)
