Thanks for your efforts--our call for advertisers to pull their funds from "Gunny" Bob Newman's 850 KOA radio show is working. Yet another former "Gunny" Bob advertiser, Excel Roofing, has agreed that their money and good name should not be associated with hate radio.

I agree, I don't like hate speech. I never bought times in that show, the station placed them. I told Clear Channel to not allow my spots to run in that time slot anymore.

J Bretz
Owner, Excel Roofing, Inc.

Thanks, Mr. Bretz. We don't like hate speech either, and we thank you for taking responsibility for the programming your advertising dollars pay for. You stepped up right away, and our network members won't forget it.

Keep the pressure on the other sponsors--it's working! Click here to see the list and give them a call, and let us know what they said.

Mike the last two links were dead, but the first two were enough to tell the story.

Just look up Doug Moreland on Opensecrets and on the SOS's campaign finance site.

Here's the juicy bits:

Owens - $5,000
Colorado Republicans - $5,000
Colorado Republicans - $1,000
Rick O'Donnell - $1,000
Americans for Free Int'l Trade: $1,000

It keeps on going. Beauprez, Allard, McInnis, Coors, Bush, Schaffer...

Correction, that was just $200 to the free trade group.

Guess the First Amendment only applies to "progressives"...
Re: Nice
By Doc May 17th 2007 at 9:06 am EDT
First Amendment applies to street corners and public assembly, there was no television or radio when the Constitution was written, that's why public airwaves are a public trust... and not just for 28 percent of the population.
Re: Nice
By Michael Ditto May 17th 2007 at 2:31 pm EDT
The first amendment absolutely applies to radio and TV. But this is not a first amendment issue.

While "Gunny" Bob has the right to say these vile things, advertisers also have the right to refuse to pay for him to do so. And the advertisers' customers have a first amendment right to tell those advertisers what they think.
Re: Nice
By Doc May 18th 2007 at 2:14 pm EDT
While I agree with you in principle Mike, there is nothing in written law equating public airwaves with the first amendment. When radio became the first public broadcast avenue, the Federal Government, under a Democratic administration, decided that rather than allow corporations to divy up the available frequencies and control what the public would hear, they established the FCC to license frequencies and ensure that license holders conducted their 'public trust' equitibly. One of the first guidelines set up was the Fairness Doctrine that required broadcasters to provide air time to individuals and groups with different points of view on any given issue, particularly if the license holder expressed a particular editorial view or position. That 'guideline' was done away with under the Reagan Administration, and license holders were allowed to 'police themselves.' Now, would you like to restate your thinking on broadcasters and the first amendment? You can have all the free speech you want, but you'll either have to pay for it, or spend as much in court to get the broadcaster to take it, and then pay for it.

What radio programs are next on the hit list? I presume we will be allowed to listen to only your approved list because that is all that will left. Are the implanted chips to follow in your controlled state?

Jumping to the wackiest extreme you can imagine doesn't win anybody over. Why do you people always go right for the "implants," anyway?

Alan, they've been on the chip ever since Tim McVey... it's hard to learn new tricks.

Dumb Gunny Bob
By Mahmoud El-Yousseph May 18th 2007 at 12:52 am EDT
Once again bigotry reared its ugly face in the great state of Colorado.

As a Muslim American Veteran of the U.S. Armed, I was saddened and disturbed by Gunny Bob's remarks. To me, it was a slap on the face. And if bigotary is a crime in America, this man will be now doing jail-time for his bigorary and hate-filled-speech.

Last March was State Rep. Jim Welker of the Colorado 50th district. He casted daoubt an the loyalty and patriotism of Muslims in America. Adding, that their goal is to destroy Israel and the U.S.

Now, we have Mr. Ugly Duckley, Gunny Bobby. What a shame!

By the way "Gunny" Bob, my forfather did not come to America's shore aboard the Nina,Pinto, or Santa Maria. However as a Muslim I served my adopted country with honor for 20 years. And FYI, the Old Glory was the first and the last I saluted.

Just before I retired several years ago, my oldest son carried the torch. He inlisted in the U.S. Army and just returned from Iraq. Last thing he told me on his way to Iraq," dad, if I die, I want to be burried at Arlington."

Please Clear Channel, dump Gunny Bob! This man helps divide rather than unite our nation. This man is like a whore, no dignity, no honor, and who will do anything for fame and money.

I will never forget Progress Now Action efforts for challanging and exposing this idiot. May God bless the U.S.A.
