On Wednesday, we delivered a pledge to all members of the Colorado State Board of Education, asking them to agree in writing to disclose any conflicts of interests arising from campaign donors who also have business before the Board. We issued this call in response to BOE member Bob Schaffer's failure to disclose that a for-profit charter school operator had donated to his U.S. Senate campaign before and after he cast the deciding vote preserving a contract for the business--after Denver Public Schools had rejected it.
Our conflict-of-interest disclosure pledge is patterned on statements that Schaffer himself made last December, hypocritically calling for exactly this sort of disclosure.
We're pleased to inform you that two BOE members, Evie Hudak and Karen Middleton, have signed the pledge. Several more have yet to do so, and just so they're clear, our fax number is 303-991-1902.

Thanks again to the hundreds of concerned citizens who signed our petition calling for Schaffer to return these dubious campaign contributions, and we'll let you know when more BOE members sign on.
