What I don't get is this whole bankruptcy issue that he spouts... people have a choice... My husband was diagnosed with Cancer and received treatment, I the following year was diagnosed with Westnile and was hospitalized and had many thousands of dollars in medical debt between the both of us. We could have taken the easy route and filed bankruptcy, but we did not we have been working on this for the past four years and have finally seen light at the end of the tunnel. That is what our country is about is about the ability to help ourselves rather than expecting others to take care of it for us and have no accountibility. This is the message Micheal Moore espouses that the individuals of this copuntry should not have personal accountibility and responsibility... just let the governemnt take care of you... get a clue who do you think the govenrment is? We the people... if Micheal Moore was so concerned why doesn't he donate all his proceeds to all his endevours to the poor and the uninsured. by his proclaim he is "a have" he should be giving his money to those who are "have nots"
Health care should be a right, not something we have to go into thousands of dollars of medical debt for. Johnna, you yourself have been taken advantage of by the health care industry. I'm sure those thousands of dollars you had to "repay" could have gone to things you would have preferred to work so hard towards, like your childrens' education, home improvements, investing perhaps?
The real accountability lies with the fat cats who are now buying gold fixtures for their yachts with the funds you worked for years to "repay" to them - not to mention interest to the banks, etc. Michael Moore's point is that there is excessive profiteering going on here. The industry makes money two ways: by not treating and not paying, and in a combination of both. This has happened to you, Johnna.
Michael Moore DOES fund so many causes, and has often spoken about how his success helps him to continue his independence from the major noise machine that is the media. This enables him to continue to bring these important issues to our attention. Your assumption that he doesn't is just that - an assumption. I don't understand why you're so eager to chastise someone who wants to help those who are less fortunate.
Your version of "helping ourselves" is more like "every man for himself". Unfortunately, there are those of us who are the weak, infirm and disabled or those who have just gotten sick for no apparent reason. So all of those people should "help themselves" too while these insurance companies and hospitals are scraping profits off of their need to survive?
And this nonsense about universal health care taking forever and people waiting for operations is just that - nonsense. You may have a few anectodal cases in your experience, and who knows what the circumstances of those people were, but you also DID NOT experience the folks getting the care they needed in Canada because they STAYED in Canada.
I have family in France, and you cannot understand what it is like to be able to go to the doctor or hospital and NOT EVEN THINK about the money. It is a huge relief psychologically to the sick, and it seems the facts and statistics about life spans being longer and percentages of typical ailments like diabetes and heart disease being lower go a long way towards showing how universal health care WORKS for these families.
You really need to check yourself in somewhere, for a REALITY CHECK! YOU ARE A VICTIM TOO!
And you should really do yourself a favor and watch Sicko. It might make you want to call your lawyer instead of your mortgage/loan broker. Now that would be taking responsibility for yourself!
