Imagine this being written with a straight face. Both Ways Bob shows us once again why that nickname is so richly deserved in this morning's Rocky:

In the past two years, unfortunately, congressional earmarks have diverted precious resources away from NREL [and Beauprez voted for them --ed.]. The diversion of these funds into other institutions has served to undermine the mission at NREL and other national laboratories. I believe this is a mistake that must be corrected.

The president has declared research into renewable energy a national priority. I believe that means adequately funding the premier national laboratory [that 100 Congressmen went to bat for last November while Beauprez refused to --ed.] tasked with developing renewable energy should also be a national priority...

Meanwhile, back in the real world...just bug-eyed unbelievable...

I find it shameless that both W and Beauprez are using NREL for a photo-op that many people will see as support for renewable energy when nothing could be further from the truth. They both should be held accountable for the disconnect between what they say, or write, and what they actually do. I wrote letters to the papers, I hope lots of other people do too.
Also I think the Progress Now Placard should specifically address that issue.

I think you made a small mistake in your analysis of our president's intentions vis a vis the NREL.
Yes he called research into renewal energy a national priority but what you failed to take into account what national priority means to Bush and his cronies.
All it means to them is another brick in the "We can do whatever we want and you can't stop us" wall. Along with that is the "We decide who gets the money and if your not a friend of the gang it ain't you" message.
He doesn't care what he says or what we think of him. He is out in three years and he has no chnce for a legacy so why not play games with the little people.

You're right of course, out of civility or something we continue to afford these people the benefit of the doubt. I'll try not to let it happen again.
