We've been talking for years about former Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Paschall. Highlights include:
The JeffCo Treasury Mess - RePaschall
Hate State. Again...
Commissioners: On the Paper, Paschall!

Republican Sleaze Brigade: One Last Parting Shot
Today, the thing that everyone will remember Mark Paschall by: not the incompetence on the job as treasurer, not telling Jeffco jurors to ignore the law...nope, Paschall's legacy will apparently be one of simple Boss Hogg-style corruption.
Jeffco initiates kickback probe
Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Would anybody expect to get away with something like this? This isn't smart corruption. It's not evil genius corruption. It's more "twenty dollar bag of crack stickup" corruption. It's almost "please bust me, this is a cry for help" corruption.
And it would be sad if not for the way this guy conducted himself as treasurer of Colorado's biggest local government (see above). As it is, we see Mark Foley chairing the Exploited Children's Caucus all over again, in microcosm...and the word of the day is "tragicomic."
The JeffCo Treasury Mess - RePaschall
A Denver Post investigation of records going back to 2001 found millions of dollars in transactions that have slipped through county departments without competitive bidding, close supervision or binding contracts.
Hate State. Again...
JeffCo County Treasurer "Pusillanimous" Paschall distributes pamphlets at the JeffCo county courthouse promoting juror nullification based on jurors' personal interpretation of God's will.
Commissioners: On the Paper, Paschall!
Paschall's materials "are political in nature and are not related to his department and its focus," Sheehan said.
Commissioner Pat Holloway said she has enjoyed her differences with Paschall, but says now, "This is not fun. I'm tired. ... I just want him to do his job. If he wants to run for another office, fine. Do this job now and let the rest of us do our jobs."

Republican Sleaze Brigade: One Last Parting Shot
Paschall asked to buy his county vehicle - a black 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer - at $9,000 below fair market value and to buy his county-owned computer...

Jeffco initiates kickback probe
Allegations that Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Paschall solicited a kickback from a top aide that he gave a $25,000 year-end bonus to are under investigation by the District Attorney's Office.
Paschall, who was defeated in a bid for a second term in last year's Republican primary, allegedly approached his administrative coordinator and longtime associate, Kathy Redmond, and asked for as much as half of the bonus, which was $25,096.32 before taxes and other deductions.
Commissioner Jim Congrove said that an obviously distressed Redmond came to him about Paschall's alleged request...

Every time the likes of Paschall rise-up and discrace the "party of Lincoln" I am reminded of a well respected Republican who admitted"...I'm a Gerald Ford Republican stranded in a focus on the family party." The loss of Gerald Ford this week makes this kind of revelation all the more poignant.
This nation desperately needs a Republican resurgence that is committed to the US Constitution, and not fundamentally compromised. We all suffer under the weight of attempts to legislate radical religious morality, attacking those who attend "those other churches," and campaigning by lyin' and cheatin' political tactics.
