Who the hell is Mark Paschall, anyway?

The verdict is in and it's screw indicted former Jefferson County Treasurer Mark Paschall, universally recalled yesterday by his former colleagues in the state legislature and county government alike as a devious blowhard. Nobody claims surprise at seeing him at long last wearing, and Sen. Bob Hagedorn tells it, "county orange."
Cue the Rocky Mountain News:
You know, it is kind of sad. Especially for the Independence Institute.
With everybody so eager to have Mr. Paschall depart from them like a sinner they never knew on frigging judgement day, it would probably be a out of line to mention this column by the Independence Institute's Dave Kopel (a Rocky columnist) praising Paschall and describing his group's support for one of his more controversial actions as Jeffco treasurer.
Or this Dave Kopel column, defending another controversial move by then-Rep. Paschall--in fact the same one mentioned in today's Rocky article which provoked the response from Rep. Joyce Lawrence (R), "there are a couple of people in here I wouldn't trust with my dog."
Here's a press release from the national political action committee FreedomWorks on a rally held in opposition to Referendum C, starring Dick Armey, former state senate president John Andrews, Sen. Shawn Mitchell, and, you guessed it...
Anyway, sorry to pop any bubbles. And to think, they loved him for his commitment to values-oriented and cost effective government. Some irony there, gotta admit, my stars yes.
But enough about that. Mark, while you're in Jefferson County's lockup, do me a favor and say hi to Robert Corry, the ex-Independence Institute counsel who pled down to assault last week from his original rape charge and will be cooling his heels with you for sixty days or so.
What a fascinating brood this is.
Cue the Rocky Mountain News:
The news that Paschall, a four- term representative who went on to become Jefferson County treasurer, has been charged with asking an aide for a kickback was the talk of the Senate on Tuesday.
Many lawmakers expressed sorrow for his family but not for the outspoken Arvada Republican, who often tangled with them when he served in the House.
Paschall had a reputation for being mean to Democrats, who were in the minority, a bully to fellow Republicans and someone who wasn't always on the up and up.
"I'm saddened by this event," remarked Sen. Steve Johnson, R-Fort Collins, although he was laughing as he said that.
