Denver: ProgressNowAction called for Doug Lamborn to ask Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert to step down from House leadership. The group launched a petition to thousands of people in the Colorado Spring's area days after Hastert campaigned with Lamborn in that area.
"That Hastert protected Foley and left children to fend for themselves is so outrageous even national conservatives are calling on Hastert to resign as Speaker," stated Bobby Clark, Deputy Director of ProgressNowAction. "Lamborn should be calling on Hastert to step down from House leadership."
This past Saturday, September 30th, House Speaker Dennis Hastert visited Colorado Springs to campaign with Lamborn and raise money for his race. That's the same day that the Washington Post reported that Hastert had admitted knowing a year ago about inappropriate contact between Republican Congressman Mark Foley and a young boy serving as a page for the House.
Reports that Speaker Hastert knew about Foley's predatory actions, yet covered it up and left children to fend for themselves, has led even many national conservatives to call for Hastert's immediate resignation.
"So far Lamborn, who was campaigning with Hastert as this story was exploding, has said nothing," noted Clark.
The petition, Link , asks Lamborn to return the money he raised from Hastert's visit and request that Speaker Hastert immediately resign from leadership in Congress.

First of all, Dennis Hastert was NOT in Colorado with Doug Lamborn on Saturday. As far as I know, he has never been in Colorado Springs.
Secondly, you conveniently fail to name the "national conservatives" who have called for Hastert's resignation. Do you mean the editorial writer for The Washington Times? Do you even know his/her name? I haven't heard of one other conservative individual or organization calling for Hastert's resignation.
Maybe if you liberals told the truth more often people might take you more seriously.
"Hastert left Washington, D.C. Friday night to attend a campaign event in Colorado to benefit GOP candidate Doug Lamborn. During the event, Hastert promised to support Lamborn’s bid for a seat on the Armed Services Committee if he is elected to Congress, according to a release from Lamborn’s campaign..."

You were saying? And in this morning's Washington Post --

Hastert's loyal deputy, Majority Leader John Boehner (Ohio), told a hometown radio station that the blame was all Hastert's. "I believe I talked to the speaker and he told me it had been taken care of," Boehner said. "And my position is it's in his corner, it's his responsibility."
Rep. Tom Reynolds (N.Y.), the man leading House Republicans' campaign efforts, was also blaming "supervisor" Hastert for failing to act earlier to protect boys in the congressional page program from Foley's overtures. "I heard something; I took it to my supervisor," Reynolds said.
Before long, the august National Review had found Hastert and his team guilty of "serious sins of omission," while the magazine's Larry Kudlow joined the mutiny and called Hastert "an ineffective leader."

Thanks for playing, pal. Maybe if you right-wingers told the truth more often people might take you more seriously...
