Where is the activity 'for' the environment?
Is it where the mountain bike paths are plenty? Where the yoga classes happen outside under the palms? Near the Off-Road trailheads for the local 4x4 clubs? On the beach towels of the plentiful coastal areas?
Or perhaps is it where the steel mills pour and press for the continuance of industrial progress? Miles from the vertical spike of our 100+ nuclear power plants steam plumes? How about the coal mining belt in the Appalacians? The Major metro areas in the parks or conference center complexes?
I would like to start this blog by saying I believe the activity advocating the position of the environment is brewing from the bases of each of our home coffee pots...or from our heels while standing in line at the local coffee house reading what free trade beans are available. Also those few who are feeling the lessening of cholesterol and chemicals floating in their blood streams by shopping at their local (or even out of the way) Whole Foods/Wild Oats/Natural Foods section of their grocer may be in the stream of advocacy to enforce the protection of the clean environment from which their organic food can take root. Grass Roots...where the connection to the Earth begins to grow and reach into the visible realm. It can be mowed down and kept at a predictable controlled height on the fairway, but on the outskirts out of bounds the roots penetrate horizontally as talking through the grapevine and continue to grow and to rise up. Take notice as politics shoots straight to keep the wheels of capitalism and progress within the confines of this clean shot. as the politicians tee up the fear of straying into the out of bounds beacons to be a greater threat for change to their ideals and direction.
From the greater heights attained the roots have also dug deeper so swing after swing we the people hold the ball in our court. We are the voice of the environment and if not us nature has only tragedy to make itself heard either through extinctions and vacancies where once there was a thriving population or by tumultuous calamity of tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, floods, and earthquakes. As we develop technologies let us not stifle the excitement of innovation with non-acceptance but with an interested skepticism and interest in sustainable design. As we purchase our products let us stand up and admit the price for our own health whether internally organic produce bound or externally with plentiful trees and clean skies from recycled paper usage is absolutely worth the sacrifice of a higher cost. Competition will drive the price down in a market which values quality versus bottom dollar. As we generate waste by our personal tonnage over a lifetime help one another realize the simplicity of recycling and encourage expansion of collection centers and community wide programs.
Europe has strict enforcement of their rules to be better eco-citizens, because they have felt the trash pile on their doorsteps for over thousands of years as their views have opened from the sawing down of the forests. I want to live in an America which values our unique open spaces before thew succumb to urban sprawl. Growing populations globally have given us a glimpse of the possibilities in an overcrowded world like India & China & increasingly the developing world nations. Lets start the smart path. Personal decisions to live in a greater harmony with our world.
If the environment sparks you to move towards starting a fire or just warming up your representatives and senators write 'em. They do not know your burning until they can see hear or feel it from you! And if you want to make sure they pay attention...Email is quick no doubt but a mailed and signed letter has personality...and hand written means you care...and you might not have any care for technologies available to society.
So a blurb from a modern hippie or a mainstream converter to an Eco-Friendly Global Citizen...Let me know what you all think.
I will drop some focus where the lens floats over in the future.

Time is of the essence and there are moments where a non-smoker's break may just be spent on that quick email to their senator or rep to let them know we are out there...WE, the cyber-citizens of the techno savy world, are on the wire and paying attention! Those are the precious moments when we are standing in coffee shop lines with our blackberry streamlined messages or in the park 'borrowing' a little wireless...that WE can dream of those bike trails, 4X4 weekends or the fresh air that our lungs crave.
A voice whispers a thousand echoes whether or not it is hand written. I am sure the trees spared from sacrafice will thank the us for the advances in communication!
smiles at you for your first blog! keep it up my friend...
