Electability
Bad? Brilliant?

With less than two months to go till the primaries, many voters are tuning in to the political show and are questioning Senator Clinton's inevitability. According to recent public surveys in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, Hillary Clinton is losing support. Rather than speculate as to why Clinton is losing support among voters, I'd like to present a few reason why Senator Obama is gaining support and is the Democrats strongest candidate.

As I noted yesterday on Who Will Be the Nominees for President?, Obama is the Democrats strongest candidate in the general election as reported in the most recent Survey USA. Details from the poll:

Obama leads...
Giuliani by 13 points
Romney by 14 points
Huckabee by 21 points
McCain by 8 points

Still ahead in Iowa in most matchups, but by smaller and, over time, narrowing margins, is Hillary Clinton. Today, Clinton leads...

Giuliani by 4 points. (1/3 of Obama's lead)
Romney by 6 points. (1/2 of Obama's lead)
Huckabee by 6 points (1/3 of Obama's lead)
...but trails McCain by 4 points.

A strong reason for this is the type of campaign the candidates are running. While some candidates "participate in the politics of personal destruction" with DC textbook campaigns, Obama challenges the American people to rise to the urgency of now to change America. As the Washington Post reported on the last debate:

Obama offered his "we can do more" vision succinctly and forcefully. "Don't keep on assuming we can't do something," Obama scolded Blitzer at one point. "I am running for president because I think we can do it."

Obama's campaign is bringing American's together instead of dividing us further.

The Pew Research center found that Obama has "far greater political crossover appeal than does Clinton." Not only will Barack win-over Independent and Republican voters, but he will also be the best Presidential candidate to help down-ballot victories for candidates who are in Red states and swing districts in 2008.

As the Iowa Independent reported, Independents and Republicans will not only vote for him, but they will work to make sure Obama is nominated.

"To Iowans, electability means that we need to win this election," said Dale Hedgecoth, one of Linn County for Obama's most out-spoken and active volunteers. "There are some of these other candidates that are carrying too much baggage. We need a cross-over vote from Republicans in this primary and we need independents to come over as well. I believe that will happen at caucus time and, if Barack Obama is the candidate, I believe it will also happen during the general election."

Hedgecoth estimates 15 percent of the people walking into and volunteering at the Linn County for Obama office are Republicans or former Republicans. Electing someone who can represent and find support on both sides of the political spectrum, he said, should go a long way to ending "the political gridlock" of recent years.

Barack isn't only the strongest candidate for Democrats, he's the best candidate for America in 2008.

To join the movement, head over to Colorado for Barack Obama and find an event near you. The campaign is hosting voter registration drives, caucus trainings, debate watching parties and other exciting events throughout the state.
