Precincts, Assemblies, and Caucus... oh my!

Shout-out to me in the Rocky today... I am so excited about all this caucus stuff I can't even hold it in. Kudos to orgs like Latina Initiative and The White House Project for talking to people about being precinct captains, delegates, election judges... etc. This will be the second presidential election in my voting career and the first where I know anything about what happens before the general election. But I'm jumping right in there. I’m making my way to the top! National Convention... here I come... This whole situation reminds me of a magazine article I read a while ago that said US children are more interested in being famous than in being intelligent! Who says policy is not for the young and hip?

Coco @ RootsCamp...

This past Saturday I arrived at RootsCamp just in time for the first session. I was tired of course (8am is not a progressive hour) but I was also really excited and hopeful. I was ready to meet people and learn about them, their efforts, and their successes.

The beginnings of my first three sessions were actually a little bit scary. They were largely centered on some of the ballot issues coming up in 2008. People asked questions and got deep into the community opinions that would even allow for some of the ballot issues we're going to see. It was really hard to hear people talk about the intense media saturation by the right wing with anti- labor, anti-affirmative action, and anti-reproductive rights messages that are surely to come. Individuals and organizations also criticized our current messaging tactics and asked about how to take action in the approaching chaos that is 2008

I ultimately learned a lot about the talking points that the progressive community is going to use next year. I loved seeing all the (people) resources in the progressive community, how we can work together, and energize eachother. It was just a little bit inspiring….

But that's what RootsCamp is about right?

the republicans are serious...?

What country and at what time do the republicans think we are living in here? Our current president (R) is asking for an extra $46 billion for the war. More and More people are losing their healthcare benefits and coverage altogether. This is one of the biggest issues of the candidacy. What happened at this week's republican debates in Florida? I'll tell you what. The candidates spent the whole time bickering, joking, and generally not addressing any of the issues important to this race. What kind of question is "who is more conservative?" are you serious? This isn't the 6th grade class presidency we're talking about. That question would seem more ridiculous if it wasn't really the tone of the whole debate. (I just picture a " Mean Girls " style battle between the republicans over this issue.) Compilation of the topics covered - read below.

Show Up For Our Country on July 4th, Show Your Outrage @ 5pm @ Colfax & Broadway & Tell the Post & News "Impeachment is On The Table"

All of you who are outraged at the un-Constitutional actions of Libby, Cheney, and Bush should show up at Colorado's longest running Impeachment Rally on July 4th at 5 pm at Colfax & Broadway in Denver.

This event is part of a Colorado Impeachment effort that has been quietly taking place twice a week since Jan 23rd. We have held at least two impeachment events each week in Denver. Join us. Link

We will have signs. You may bring you own. Just show up to show your love of Country. Now is the time to come to the defense of your Constitution and Laws. Cheney, Libby and Bush's Neocons will literally get away with murdering 3,500 US soldiers over Cheney's WMD lies. Don't let them get away with it. Show your outrage. Show up.

Perhaps we may yet prove to Denver's Corporate Media that the Voters Last Resort "Impeachment" is not off the table. Cheney is very vulnerable to Impeachment.

Call 800-828-0498 and tell all of Colorado's Congressmen to become a Co-Sponsor on US Rep Kucinich's Impeach Cheney Bill H Res 333.and if you can find the time, Call All Of the Country's Congessmen to do the Same.

This last week Kucinich's Impeach Bill picked up more Co-Sponsors... It Will Happen.

The Democrats will not be able to ignore Impeachment because of the revelations of un-Constitutional actions by Cheney will come out. They will look like fools if they don't Impeach, and lose in November 2008.

Please Vote to Impeach in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll at

Please join Congresswoman Diana DeGette tonight at the Windsor Gardens Auditorium as she gives her constituents a progress report from Washington.

I got this information from her Denver Congressional District Office just a few minutes ago.

Location: Windsor Gardens Auditorium 595 S. Clinton St.

Time: 7 pm Tuesday evening May 29 (TONIGHT) 1 hour only... talk fast!

Directions from Denver: East on Alameda to Clinton and then South on Clinton for 1-2 blks. The Auditoriun is attached to the clubhouse and to the rear of it.

A great time to ask about her saving 1,000 US Soldiers lives by stopping the Iraq War Now, not next year.

And oh yes there is the issue of the Cheney WMD Lies that put our soldiers in harms way in the first place.

Is DeGette going to protect Cheney from accountability for the lies and make him pay a political price for lying.. or let Cheney skate?

Will she become a Co-Sponsor on US Rep. Kucinich's Bill to Impeach Cheney?

Does she think it is important that she vote to uphold and protect the US Constitution?

Does she think someone worse than Bush will every be President?
Could it be a threat to our Constitutional Republic if that happened?

Tell her Presidents will never fear Impeachment or respect Congress if she and the others Never Impeach anyone.

How about Gonzales?

She's your Congresswoman and she works for you.

Tell her (respectfully) what you want her to do.

Tell 'Foxy' to Stop the Iraq War & Impeach Bush

We had a little fun with 'Foxy' the fox today... NO, not That Kind of Fun!

We heard that Frontier was doing a Campaign Interview style promo for the 'Foxy' Frontier's Favorite Animal at the Civic Center today across from the City Hall. So we thought this would be great test of our Concept of Instant Vigils.

We flew downtown and did a 'one indian' to their 'circle the wagons' maneuver. The media types applauded my arrival but grumbled later when they had trouble getting a shot without our signs in the background.

Our sign on one side said.

Call Foxy and tell her to
Stop the Iraq War
and impeach Bush

and on the other side

Call Foxy and say
Stop the War and
impeach Bush.

Amazing the amount of eyeballs these signs got.

It was Fun...
you all shoulda been there.

Maybe next time, eh! Join Us.
Impeachment can be fun.

Weekly Noon Vigils are growing, To Impeach Bush-Cheney & Stop Iraq war

Last week at the Capital we had a good group of activists. Our efforts were rewarded by motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists with a lot of honking and waving.

The Iraq War was the central issue of the 2006 Election and the public still wants Bush and Cheney held accountable.

During World War II Franklin D. Roosevelt had four (4) Republican led investigations going against him. The last finished up after his death. They were trying to prove he knew in advance about Pearl Harbor and failed to warn the military in Hawaii. they never succeeded in making the charge stick.

If the greatest US war President of modern times can have this much oversight, why is Bush and Cheney about to get away with lying to Congress in order to get permission to invade snother country?

We wonder when the Democrats who campaigned against Bush's Iraq WMD lies and Iraq Invasion Outcome will begin to hold serious investigations, hearings and if warranted impeachment? Will it ever happen?

Our group will be there to remind them... and you are all invited to stand with us.

We'll be there...

Every Wednesday Noon at the State Capital ( Lincoln & 14th) and

Every Thursday Noon at DeGette's Office ( East 6th & Grant)
There is a proposal to move this vigil around to different US Reps offices each week day. Tell us what you think about this.

We have extra signs if you don't. If your schedule is tight, come and stay for only a few minutes. It all helps.

Anyone interested in the possibility of holding Bush and Cheney accountable for their crimes is welcome to join us. We believe that we can put enough public pressure on our US Representatives we might be able to cause a Bill of impeachment. ( Yes..especially the Democrats we elected... the ones who dissed Bush/Cheney so, who now are Congressmen who have the power to Impeach).

We are doing two weekly vigils so far, one on
">Link
Wednesdays at Noon at the State Capital in Denver and on Link
Thursdays at Noon at US Rep. DeGette's Denver Office at East 6th & Grant. The purpose of the Wednesday and Thursday Vigils is to attract the attention of our State Legislature. our two Daily Newspapers, and the public. We hope that someone in the Legislature will carry a bill to ask the US House to begin proceedings on Impeachment (as New Mexico's Democrats are doing). We hope the newpapers will consider that if Bill Clinton can be brought up on Impeachment for lying about sex... then perhaps the more serious offense of lying to Congress ( and Voters) just before a vote on War Resolution should require the same journalistic attention. We hope the public will begin to see that this ( lying to Congress) is a more serious matter even than the Iraq War itself (if that is possible). The previous 'do nothing' Republican Congress was not much of a check on Bush's Imperial ambitions and our current Democratic Congress' Leadership would like to ignore impeachment and 'move on 'as they say, and hope it just goes away. What they are trying to ignore is the fact that all of Bush's lies and Signing Statements add up to a huge expansion of Presidential Power. We need to protect our grandchildren from the future Imperial excesses of the next President RunAmuck, regardless of which party they come from. We need to put the Fear Of Impeachment into all future presidential candidates. Bush doesn't think the Congress will call his bluff and impeach him, so he will push his supposed 'powers' to the limit. Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are kidding themselves if they think he will back off. And even if he does, shouldn't he be held accountable for lying to Congress about a War resolution in the first place... to prevent this from recurring? And about the 700 plus Signing Statements. Saying he will ignore US Laws, after taking an Oath to Uphold them. I'll stop now.... See you tonight at Hooked On Colfax, and Wed. at the Capital, and Thursday at DeGette's Office PS... We've already started getting Push Back, from Democrats no less, about Vigiling in front of DeGette's Office. Why her they say... Well.. she is in a 'safe' seat, she now has powerful positions on very important Congressional Committees. She Can support this without endangering her re-election far more than other Democratic US Reps. As a lifelong Democrat, I've voted for DeGette in every election and carried signs for her and probably will do so in the future. I think she is Super. However, I think she and all the other Democratic Reps will duck Impeachment if we let them. We will Vigil at other Colorado US Representative's offices as soon as we have the volunteers (all of them). join us.

8 Days and 500 Phone Calls Later

I've been interning with Maria this past week and a half, working to organize house parties all over the state, in support of Colorado's new minimum wage initiative. It's been a lot of work, and a lot of emails and voicemail messages, but the event is finally out of our hands. Tonight, at six o'clock, activists from all across the state will convene at seventeen different house parties, from Rifle to Pueblo to Greeley. At six thirty, these house parties will join a statewide conference call with Senator John Edwards, and many others will call in of their own accord.

Big news today : An arrest warrant was issued today for Tom "The Hammer" DeLay. No, it wasn't for his role in the Contract on America, or any of his other infractions against Americans. It was for money laundering and conspiracy. I'm just glad it wasn't something serious, like lying about sex....

A timetable for withdrawal might be good for Iraq

In yesterday's Washington Post an op-ed by Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) outlined how setting a time table for withdrawing troops from Iraq will actually help the process. The basic logic, which makes some sense, is that the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds will have a huge insentive to work together if they know we're leaving by a set date. I'd imagine all three groups would prefer avoiding civil war. With US troops there trying to keep some peace between the groups, they certainly have less incentive to compromise on a constitution or other form of government.

At the very least, getting our troops out of Iraq might remove the bull's eye on the country for outside terrorist groups. I don't know if this is a solution, but Bush's status quo approach certainly isn't any better.

Maybe if we bring out troops home, we can refocus some of them on finding Osama?

A great day for hate in Alabama.

The former Alabama Justice who was kicked off the bench for breaking the law by refusing to remove his 10 Commandmants monolith is back in the news. He's going to run for Govenor of Alabama.

From CNN.com :
Roy Moore, who became a hero to the Christian right after being ousted as Alabama's chief justice for refusing to remove a monument of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse, announced Monday that he is running for governor in 2006.

Moore's candidacy could set up a showdown with Gov. Bob Riley, a fellow Republican, and turn the Ten Commandments dispute into a central campaign issue in this Bible Belt state

Let me just tell you what else Roy Moore did when he was a Justice in Alabama. In one of his ruling, written down for all of history to remember, he says that the state has the power and should exercise it to KILL gays and lesbians.
Here's the exact text of his writing, with a special thanks to the good folks at the Southern Poverty Law Center :

" The State carries the power of the sword, that is, the power to prohibit [homosexual] conduct with physical penalties, such as confinement and even execution. It must use that power to prevent the subversion of children toward this lifestyle."
-- 2002 concurrence in a custody case involving a lesbian mother

Scary stuff when a person who advocates death for gays and lesbians has reached a point that he can seriously run for governor of a state in this country in the year 2005.

If you would like to hear more about Roy Moore and the other worst ant-gay hate mongers in the US (including James Dobson), check out the podcast I did with Mark Potok, editor of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project.
