The Shifty Schaffer campaign kicked off today!

Here's our own Bobby Clark responding to the news last week that ICE Agent and Bob Beauprez supporter had be charged with 3 counts of violating the law for illegally accessing the federal crime database for improper reasons. Alan has a great post on it here.

Filmed last weekend by ProgressTV producer Jen Caltrider. Running time 24:56.

In order to preserve our liberties, we must not allow hate and bigotry to go unanswered.

Earlier this week a popular right-wing host on Denver's KOA radio, "Gunny" Bob Newman, stated on-air that "every Muslim immigrant to America who holds a green card, a visa, or who is a naturalized citizen [should] be required by law to wear a GPS tracking bracelet at all times," and that the government should "bug their places of work and their residences" and monitor "[a]ll mosques and community centers."

During World War II, people like Gunny Bob stoked the fears that resulted in tens of thousands of Japanese Americans being rounded up and sent to prison camps in the name of national security. This was a dark time in our nation's history and we must not allow it to happen again.

To the extent that anyone's rights are not protected under the Constitution, no one's rights are protected. Of course, Gunny Bob has the right to speak his mind freely. But we also have the right to respond to him with one loud voice, telling Gunny Bob, KOA radio, and their sponsors that we will not tolerate hate.

Tell "Gunny" Bob Newman's advertisers: don't pay for this. Click here to sign the petition:

dontpayforhate.com

Read the full report at Colorado Media Matters here.

Once you've signed the petition, take a moment right now to call advertisers on Newman's radio program and ask them to stop paying for hate.

UPDATE: After you've called any of the advertisers, post a comment and tell how the call went and what the response was.

Craig Hughes, Director of Research at RBI Strategies here in Colorado explains the numbers behind Colorado's 2006 election. Here's some insight into why Colorado went blue and where we need to work harder to keep it blue.

The White House Project and ProgressNow held a press conference today to update folks on the Campaign to Draft Foxy. Frontier Airlines showed up with a statement from Foxy herself.

Watch the video of the press conference.

Text of Foxy's response to the Draft Foxy Committee:

My fellow countrymen... I am honored and humbled that over 600 people have asked me to run for "Denver's Favorite Animal". And I want the public to know that the age of "all male candidate elections" is long past us. In the year 2007, we demand a diverse field of candidates. This is a sentiment I whole-heartedly support.

That said, although I find the prospect of debating the likes of Jack the Rabbit and Grizwald the Bear amusing, I'm looking for something more.

Let's face it people: Denver's Favorite Animal is a popularity contest. And frankly, I prefer to leave popularity contests where they belong: In High School.

Instead, I'm setting my sights on a more meaningful office -- one that has the power to generate real political change.

And that's where The White House Project comes in. The White House Project inspires and encourages female candidates like me to run for office, and provides us with the tools we need to win. This year, I'll be attending The White House Project's Go Run training in Denver -- learning basic campaign skills like fundraising, communications and grassroots organizing, while becoming part of an influential network of mentors and colleagues. After my Go Run training, nothing will stop me from winning a seat in government.

So go ahead boys -- have fun duking it out for Denver's Favorite Animal. I've got bigger fish to fry.

No offense Flip.

In the wildly popular campaign to elect Denver's Favorite Animal, the good folks over at The White House Project discovered there are no female candidates. Well, we find that unacceptable.

That's why we are kicking off a campaign to Draft Foxy!

Watch the video, send it to your friends and then sign the petition to get Foxy the Fox on the ballot.

Vote for the Vixen!

Keeping Colorado up-to-date on the status of Ted Haggard's restoration is of utmost importance. We take on the challenge...even if he has discovered he's "completely heterosexual."

Good stuff this. Watch it just to see Condi with Mary Cheney.

I know, I know...it's really freakin' cold outside.

But that doesn't change the fact that the planet is getting warmer. And you don't have to believe me or Al Gore on this. A report released yesterday by an international panel of scientists says, yes, in fact the planet is getting warmer. And yes, they added, it is likely the fault of us humans. So, in honor of our warming planet, I found a couple of videos to remind us of the plight we're in...in a humorous sort of way.

Enjoy!

Of all the people we've had the pleasure of calling to account this very good 2006, the two that stand out are Bob Beauprez and Marilyn Musgrave. Herein lies an important point about what we do: one election went one way, one another, and it doesn't really matter as we'll prove in 2007 when we continue to hold these people to account.

Well, not Beauprez so much. He's pretty much done. But the others, you watch for it.

If you ask Time Magazine's Person of the Year (look it up), ProgressTV producer Jen Caltrider, who she most enjoyed making video shorts for YouTube about this year, she'll show you these videos.

"Marilyn Musgrave's Issues" -- The not-so-obvious ones, anyway.

"That's My Record!" -- our resurrection of the Pink Lady (sans dead people) was well-received (once people realized it didn't contain dead people). Our Pink Lady put in an Oscar-winning performance in 100+ degree heat wearing pink wool. We love her. But the winner by a mile would nonetheless have to be

"Marilyn Musgrave Attacks!" -- Viewed over 88,000 times on YouTube and their #9 video clip the week prior to the 2006 elections, this video documents various Musgrave lackies' (and Musgrave herself) attempts to doge a question put to her by ProgressTV's Ben Gelt, who is like fifteen feet tall and apparently doesn't blanch easily.

So that was Jen's high point in 2006. Mine, on the other hand, the reason 2006 was a fun year for me, was

(undoctored photo)

Now it's true that we weren't the ones who came up with the now-legendary moniker "Both Ways Bob" -- we'll give that credit where it's due with Beauprez's Republican primary opponent. There was a staff meeting, when we were running through all the things to do that week and one of us remarked kind of offhandedly, "'Both Ways Bob.' That's pretty good."

We eventually decided it looks even better on a billboard rolling down I-25:

And on flip flops (Senator Ken Salazar agrees as you can see):

Beauprez kept us pretty busy this year, reaching a high point last October best illustrated by these four links:

Ritter accuses Beauprez campaign of illegal research
Rocky Mountain News, 10/14
Group wants FBI to take over probe
Rocky Mountain News, 10/16 -- we're the "Group"
Beauprez should speak up
Denver Post editorial, 10/17
FBI joins probe in guv race
Rocky Mountain News, 10/18

After you've read those, this picture makes a little more sense:

So I'm going to miss Bob Beauprez, and Rick O'Donnell, and Joe Stengel, and all the others who won't be joining us in the sandbox next year. They really were good sports about it, and I hope their remaining friends and successors will be too. Happy 2007, companeros, 'cause we're gonna be there.

Thanks for a great year.

Marilyn Musgrave stated on September 22, 2006 that marriage was the most important question facing us today.

This sparked an interesting question: If you had to choose between saving the life of a solider or preventing a gay marriage, which would you choose?

We ventured out into Colorado Congressional District 4 to ask both candidates--Marilyn Musgrave and Angie Paccione--this question.

Their responses are quite telling:

Colorado's Congressional District 5, representing Colorado Springs and the surrounding area, is one of the most largest military districts in the nation.

The person elected to represent that district will likely serve on the Armed Services Committee in Congress.

We asked the two candidates their qualifications for this job.

Earlier this week we ventured up into Colorado District 4 to ask Marilyn Musgrave a question. We got attacked.

Today we ventured back into Colorado District 4 to ask Musgrave's opponent, Angie Paccione, the same question. This time we got an answer.

We've got 5 days until the election!

Right now the most important thing is Getting Out The Vote!

Here's a little tool you all can email to your friends to remind them to vote!
Oh, and it also reminds them to take a moment to think before they vote.

Please share this with everyone you know. We must Get Out The Vote!

Go to ProgressNowAction.org/GOTV for more ways to get involved in getting out the vote.
The "Stay the Course" policy in Iraq has failed. It is time for change.

We were joined by two veterans of the Iraq war who say that it is time to elect people in Colorado who will bring change to the failed Iraq War.

We were also joined by two mothers of soldiers heading to Iraq.

Listen to their powerful statements calling for change.
Then share them with every voter in Colorado.
This is simply too important a message to miss.

MOTHERS OF SOLDIERS FOR CHANGE

We ventured into Marilyn Musgrave's district to ask her a few questions from her constituents. Seems she didn't want to talk to us. Then things got ugly. Watch for yourself.

Go to DearMarilyn.org for more information on Marilyn Musgrave.
Senator John Edwards took a moment during his recent visit to Colorado to implore all Coloradans to get out and VOTE!

Watch our video of the Senator and former Vice-Presidential candidate, then go to ProgressNowAction.org/GOTV to get busy!

And don't forget about Senator Edward's main issue this election--minimum wage. Make sure you support Amendment 42 to raise the mimimum wage.

Now let's Get Out The Vote!
This week Marilyn Musgrave released a misleading attack ad using a disabled Marine to imply she supports veterans.
The truth is, she does not. According to the Disabled American Veterans, Musgrave received the lowest possible rating, a zero, the past 2 years.

Mike Collins, a disabled veteran who served in Vietman finds Musgrave's misleading ad and her disregard for veterans disgusting.

Watch Mike Collins in our ad responding to Musgrave.
Then, click here to join Veterans for Progress as they call on Marilyn Musgrave to pull her reprehensible and misleading ad.

Don't let Marilyn Musgrave get away with lying to Colorado!
