Protect Tenure for Professors: Stop HB 1284 - Sign the Petition!

See TODAY's Denver Post article about the AP Poll supporting impeachment.

We in Colorado have waged a tough campaign to get our four Democratic Congressmen to support impeachment.

We have pressured Rep. Udall because he is in contest for the Senate in a race considered "too close to call" in a battle ground state. As a result of our pressure his recent replies to his constituents indicate he is coming closer to calling for impeachment.

Today the Denver Post published this article about the new poll by the Associated Press and the National Constitution Center.

"WASHINGTON--Americans strongly oppose giving the president more power at the expense of Congress or the courts, even to enhance national security or the economy, according to a new poll.

Two-thirds of Americans oppose altering the balance of power among the three branches of government to strengthen the presidency, even when they thought that doing so would improve the economy or national security. People were more evenly split over giving Congress more power in the same circumstances."

You can read the entire AP poll article here:

to Call For Immediate Impeachment Hearings
and for extension of this session of Congress
or the calling of a special session.

Our challenge to Udall:

This is the defining moment for Rep. Udall.

"Two-thirds of Americans oppose altering the balance of power among the three branches of government to strengthen the presidency, even when they thought that doing so would improve the economy or national security", The Associated Press-National Constitution Center poll

Speaker Pelosi of the US House is suppressing impeachment resolutions and trying to quietly but quickly end this session of Congress without dealing with the massive fraud of the WMD Lies foisted on the Congress and the American people by President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Pelosi has led the incumbent House Democrats so poorly that they have worse positive poll ratings than Bush. The Democrats desire for a filibuster proof Senate and a veto proof Congress are now at stake. The effort by Pelosi to suppress any little discussion of holding Bush and Cheney liable for misleading Congress and the American people may cost the Party the majorities they so desperately desire.

This election is still too close to call in all respects.

The Congress and the American people need a Champion now. A courageous congressman who will stand up immediately and call for impeachment hearings to begin prior to the election and who will also call for the extension of this session of the House or for a special session to deal solely with impeachment. Starting the hearings now will send a message to the entire world that the American people do not agree with the methods of the Bush Administration and that we do not wish to be perceived to be as reckless as Bush and Cheney have been. Finishing the hearings prior to the election is not as important as getting them started before the election.

As scary as they are, neither the turmoil in the markets or the War on Terror are are the greatest threat to democracy. The expansion of Presidential Power if left unchecked by the incumbent House Democrats is the great threat to our republic in our lifetime.

Incumbent House Democrats are also at a defining moment. They have in their hand the power to end the Bush war of terror against our US Constitution. The incumbent House Democrats took their Oath OF Office on the Holy Bible and made a pledge to protect Our US Constitution Against All Enemies including those "domestic", Bush and Cheney. The incumbent House Democrats must not be let off the hook on this holy responsibility.

The Impeach Colorado Coalition has opposed the promotion of Udall to the US Senate because he continues to refuse to protect the US Constitution and the power of Congress against Bush and Cheney. We believe that congressmen and congresswomen who cover up for an obviously corrupt President and Vice President are perhaps themselves corrupt.

However, careful analysis of Udall's recent reply emails to his constituents reveals he is in fact debating with himself whether or not to support impeachment hearings.

We believe that Udall will rise to the immediate need, seize this opportunity, stand up for Congress and Our Constitution and place his name high in the Annals of American History.

We here in America can cause accountability for President Bush and Vice President Cheney, but you have to take action before the election. You the voter have the power to force our Incumbent Democratic Congressmen(and women) to honor their oath of office to protect our Constitution by calling for immediate impeachment hearings.

It is not necessary that impeachment hearing be finished prior to the election, only that they are started. We the voters have the power to make this happen, but you will have to call your congressman repeatedly over the next two months.

In addition, US House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers is calling the membership of the House Judiciary Committee back from their Fall recess to investigate Ron Suskind's revelations about the forged letter that falsely said that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

It has been reported that the order to the CIA to have the letter forged came on White House Stationary.

On Democracy Now today Conyers said "The 110th Congress isn't over. We're starting our work, and then we're doing it in a period where the Congress is in recess. I'm calling everybody back. We've got a huge amount of work to engage in."

Is this the "smoking gun"?

Will our Democratic Congressmen honor their Oath and call for Impeachment Hearings?

Tape: Top CIA official confesses order to forge Iraq-9/11 letter came on White House stationery.

In damning transcript, ex-CIA official says Cheney likely ordered letter linking Hussein to 9/11 attacks

A forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks was ordered on White House stationery and probably came from the office of Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a new transcript of a conversation with the Central Intelligence Agency's former Deputy Chief of Clandestine Operations Robert Richer.

The transcript was posted Friday by author Ron Suskind of an interview conducted in June. It comes on the heels of denials by both the White House and Richer of a claim Suskind made in his new book, The Way of The World. The book was leaked to Politico's Mike Allen on Monday, and released Tuesday.

From David Swanson:

The peace movement has stood for peace and justice, for ending wars, preventing new ones, and building peace. Our top priority in Washington, D.C., has been ending the funding of the occupation. That work is over for the next year, because Congress has provided that funding.

We can still work against recruitment, we can still educate, we can still agitate, we can still oppose an attack on Iran. But one of our secondary priorities in Washington has been imposing a penalty for the illegal attack on Iraq in order to discourage future attacks on Iran or anywhere else.

We have pushed half-heartedly for impeachment,
with our main lobbying focus on cutting off the money.

Now, at the same time that the money is
a done deal for another year,

the possibility of impeachment is beginning to spark. After over two years of declaring impeachment "off the table," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has relented and suggested that some sort of preliminary hearing be held in the Judiciary Committee - and specifically on the impeachable offense of misleading a nation into war.

If the peace movement is not just a movement against one war or occupation, but a movement for peace, we should push with everything we've got for that (impeachment) hearing to happen, happen soon, and happen well.

We should ask everyone who cares about peace to phone Pelosi and Committee Chairman John Conyers, as well as their own representatives, whom they should ask to introduce their own articles of impeachment.

We've been on a losing streak, brothers and sisters, and the door is cracking open toward a major victory. Let's open that door fully and lead a peaceful march of millions through it.

Shout-out to me in the Rocky today...

I am so excited about all this caucus stuff I can't even hold it in. Kudos to orgs like Latina Initiative and The White House Project for talking to people about being precinct captains, delegates, election judges... etc.

This will be the second presidential election in my voting career and the first where I know anything about what happens before the general election. But I'm jumping right in there. I’m making my way to the top! National Convention... here I come...

This whole situation reminds me of a magazine article I read a while ago that said US children are more interested in being famous than in being intelligent! Who says policy is not for the young and hip?

How is it that voting, a basic constitutional right, is consistently such a problem for state's to figure out how to do well. You’d think that after the Florida election morass that happened in 2000, states would have be able to get their act together enough to create a voting system that efficiently works along with ensuring voter confidence in fair and impartial elections.  Apparently not…with Secretary of State Mike Coffman decertifying many of Colorado’s electronic voting machines it has created election turmoil over how to count votes next November.  Coffman’s decisions have put him at odds with many county clerks who want an all mail-in ballot next year.  However, this apparently was not the option Coffman preferred, because yesterday he recommended to the Legislature that paper ballots be used in the fall

The result of this mire of voting uncertainty is a showdown this legislative session over election procedures in the centennial state.  Legislators have expressed mixed reactions over the debacle.  According to the Grand Junction Sentinel:

Coffman's announcement on Wednesday followed one on Monday by state Sen. Ken Gordon, D-Denver, calling for greater use of paper ballots. Gordon said he doubted the reliability of all electronic voting machines and called for legislation to avoid an election fiasco in November.

State Rep. Steve King, R-Grand Junction, said he was all the more interested in carrying legislation this session voiding the requirement for state certification and allowing federally certified machines to be used, an effort that state Sen. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction, endorsed.

Thus a variety of camps are already forming over which is the best method to use.  While an eager group of county clerks are understandably looking to institute an easier all mail-in ballot approach.  It’s important to remember that this would likely severely hinder voting in the 18-25 year old demographic.  These are people who move frequently and often don’t update their voting address as promptly as they should.  Under the current mail-in scenario, ballots would be sent to their last registered address.  If they’ve moved and forgotten to notify their county clerk- then no ballot.   Lets hope this group is kept in mind when the leg. Reconvenes in a couple of weeks.

Send a bold message to the city and to progressives that it is alright to support reform of our city's/state's antiquated marijuana laws.

On Saturday April 28 Colorado Citizens will rally in favor of Impeachment

Colorado activists will demonstrate their demand for impeachment of Bush and Cheney at multiple locations in Colorado as part of the National A28.Org Impeachment Day

Colorado protesters will gather Saturday April 28 at six locations, two in Denver, one each in Fort Collins, Longmont, Greeley and Salida.

The first Denver rally will start at noon at East 6th and Speer and last for one hour.

The second Denver rally will start at 1:30 pm at Lincoln and Colfax, in front of the State Capital and in view of both of Colorado's two largest daily newspapers.

The activists will shout their demand that President Bush and Vice President Cheney be made to pay at least a political price for lying to Congress and the Voters about WMD and other questionable facts in order to obtain Congressional approval for the invasion and occupation of Iraq. If Voters lied to Congress to cause a war we'd probably go to jail. We believe Bush and Cheney should be held accountable to the same rule of law.

The groups insist that all of Colorado's Democratic Congressmen and Congresswoman Co-Sponsor US Rep. Kucinich's Articles Of Impeachment.

A quote from the A28 website: George Bush and Dick Cheney have lied the nation into a war of aggression, are spying in open violation of the law, and have sanctioned the use of torture. These are high crimes and misdemeanors that demand accountability through the Constitutional mechanism of impeachment. Since Congress doesn't seem to get it, we're calling on all Americans who stand for truth, freedom, and justice to join us on April 28 and spell it out for them: IMPEACH!

Two things you can do to help US Rep. Kucinich succeed
in Impeaching Cheney are:

1. Memorize this phone number... 800-828-0498 and use it often.

(it is one of a number of toll free ways to contact
your Congressman/Senator's Office)

2. Call the number and ask for your Congressman
(if you don't know who that is tell them where you live
and they will connect you to the correct office.)

Tell your Congressman to become a 'Co-Sponsor' on
US Rep. Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment.

Then call all other Colorado Democratic Congressmem/women
offices to make the same request.

Then call US Rep. Kucinich's office and leave a message
thanking him for having the guts to do this.

I have used this number frequently and get through quickly.

It should take only a few minutes to say something like..

"My name is John Kennedy of Denver, Co and I support
Representative Kucinich's filing of Articles of Impeachment
against VP Cheney and I urge you to become a Co-Sponsor."

Simple, yes?

Go for it.............
Since Jan 24 our group PNA 1stProtestInTheStreet.Org Link
has through it's project website

( and a few other reasons of course)

Many members of ProgressNowAction.Org have emailed us

The only one who 'ever' showed up was Mike Collins last week
and we were thrilled...

Thanks Mike.

According to an article by Michael Roston in www.rawstory.com

Kucinich announces impeachment charges against Vice President Cheney

Update: The Articles of Impeachment themselves are now available, and can be accessed at a link at the bottom of the story.

After a series of delays, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), a candidate for president in 2008, announced a series of charges against Vice President Dick Cheney in Washington, DC, late in the day. Kucinich alleged that the Vice President had committed a series of impeachable offenses, and he was therefore introducing Articles of Impeachment against Cheney in the Congress today.

Kucinich started off by reading the opening words of the Declaration of Independence, arguing they were "instructive at this moment."

"Whenever any government official becomes destructive of the founding purposes, that official must be held accountable," he said.

The Ohio Democrat's move intended to provide a "defense of the rights of American people to have a government that is honest and peaceful."

Kucinich excoriated the Vice President who he called "a driving force for taking us into war against Iraq under false pretenses, and is once again rattling sabers of war against Iran, with the same intent to drive America into war, again based on false pretenses."

The Ohio Congressman, who is running for president for the second time, noted three charges in his Articles of Impeachment, which were submitted as House Resolution 333. The first concerned manipulation of intelligence about Iraq's threat to the US. The second concerned manipulation of intelligence on the Iraq-Al-Qaida relationship. The last concerned what he called having "openly threatened aggression against the Republican of Iran."

Kucinich claimed the charges were "deeply researched," in the press conference, and insisted that his accusations were not just a political stunt.

"This is not brought forth lightly. I've carefully weighed the options available to Members of Congress, and I have found this path the path that is most important to take," he explained.

Kucinich dodged a question about whether or not he had the support of fellow Members of Congress, and claimed the Articles were just now being examined by Congress members, and "you can't expect anyone to make a snap judgment."

He also said that he was only introducing the resolution, and not going to try and persuade Members of Congress to join him

"I'm not promoting it," he told Wolf Blitzer on CNN's Situation Room.

The former Cleveland Mayor further acknowledged in the press conference that he had not recently spoken with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on the matter. Pelosi had said last year that impeach was "off the table."

In a conference call with today, the Speaker went further, telling RAW STORY that "President Bush was not worth it," because impeachment proceedings would be a distraction from passing Democratic policies that would ensure the party's future political victory.

"We will do more work to make for our own reelection, and maintain a Democratic Congress, and have a Democratic President," she said. "And frankly, for impeachment, George W. Bush is just not worth it. We have great work to do for the American people."

He also acknowledged that he had not yet discussed his charges with Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, whose committee must consider whether or not to forward the articles on to Congress.

A reporter asked Kucinich why the Vice President should be impeached, and not President George W. Bush.

"There is a very practical reason - each and every charge relates to Vice President Cheney's conduct or misconduct in office," he said. But he added, "It is very important that we start with Mr. Cheney because if we were to start with the President, Mr. Cheney would then become president.

He also noted, "We'd have to go through the constitutional agony of impeaching two presidents consecutively."

The full Articles themselves, a large collection of PDF documents, are accessible at Congressman Kucinich's website. Link

The day has finally come.

Per article in Rawstory.com by Michael Roston
Published: Tuesday April 24, 2007

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will introduce Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Richard Cheney at noon today. The move will mark the first formal charges of impeachable offenses alleged against the Vice President in the course of the Bush administration.

The Congressman, a former Mayor of Cleveland and currently seeking the Democratic nomination for President in 2008, will hold a press conference at noon at the Cannon House Office Building. Kucinich's office has been tight-lipped about the particular charges he intends to array against the controversial Vice President, who according to a February Gallup Poll had an favorability rating of 37%.

The decision to lodge impeachment charges against the Vice President marked a new direction for Kucinich. Last year, he declined to support former Rep. Cynthia McKinney's (D-GA) impeachment charges against President George W. Bush, according to the Atlanta Progressive News. But after posting a video on his campaign website saying that he would consult voters as he campaigned around the country, the Congressman appears to have decided to move ahead with the impeachment charges against the Vice President.

The Congressman explained his rationale in the video.

"People are discussing it, not from the standpoint of their personal feelings towards Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney, but they're talking about it from the standpoint of 'Who are we as an American people? What are our standards? What is it that we expect from public officials? What should be the conduct of an individual who holds the office of President or Vice President?'" he said.
