As of Wed. 11/26 at 6:00 am the responses to this Impeachment OpEd had grown to over 1,246

The right wingers of both the Democrats and Republican parties were doing their best to ruin the discussion and diss the Constitution. They posted garbage using fake names which kept the right wing Dem/GOP messages on top. For instance the message "Blah.. Blah... Blah... this gets old" repeated many times really got in the way of real discussion. Regardless this is a record for comments on that paper for an impeachment discussion. It is a marvel that the Editorial Board allowed the article to be published.

Our thanks to everyone who read it and commented at the newspaper.

-----------------------------------------------

PLEASE: FORWARD TO YOUR LISTS NOW ! Thanks e.

Suggest we all read and comment on this Pro-Impeachment op-ed piece
in the Detroit Free Press today. Earlier the better. Getting to 1,000+ comments might help.

Interestingly it is placed high on the paper's website. Is the paper now getting behind impeachment???

The comments have tripled to over 500 in 2 hours.

Please add your pro-impeachment hearings comment and forward to your lists asap.

Thanks

For economy's sake,
Pelosi needs to push for impeachment now

BY ROCHELLE RILEY Nov. 25, 2008

For economy's sake,
Pelosi needs to push for impeachment now

Rep. Nancy Pelosi's ineffectiveness became clear the day she became Speaker of the House and immediately announced that there would be no impeachment proceedings against President George W. Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney.

Guided by politics, she said leading investigations into just how much the Bush administration did - and did wrong - would be divisive. What she didn't express was her worry that too many Democrats faced elimination from the House if they took on the difficult task of proving who knew what, when.

But Congress is running out of time to finally make the Bush administration own up to its actions for eight years. If Congress isn't careful, the president who already has issued 171 pardons could also pardon every appointee and employee he has ever had - and their dogs. And then Americans will never find out what happened to our country over the past eight years.

Pelosi wouldn't have to start from scratch: Rep. Dennis Kucinich, the bravest member of Congress, introduced legislation 11 months ago to impeach the president and vice president. Last January, the House gave a first reading of one of those articles of impeachment. Our own Rep. John Conyers, chair of the House Judiciary Committee, joined 38 other representatives to sponsor HR 635, which would form a committee to look into whether there are grounds for impeachment. Revive that effort!

Last week, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-New York, submitted a resolution demanding that Bush stop issuing "pre-emptive pardons of senior officials in his administration during the final 90 days of office."

Nadler said in news reports that he was moved to action by the president's "widespread abuses of power and potentially criminal transgressions against our Constitution" and that he wanted to prevent the "undeserved pardons of officials who may have been co-conspirators in the president's unconstitutional policies, such as torture, illegal surveillance and curtailing of due process for defendants."

Nadler is storming the beach; others should join him.

If Congress moves quickly and forces the president to focus on impeachment, then he won't have so much time to push through last-minute regulatory changes that will continue to hurt our country and our ideals. He already has pushed deregulation that would allow employers to talk directly with employees' doctors and allow power companies to build polluting facilities close to national parks.

Anyone worried that our congressional representatives can't tie their shoes and chew gum at the same time, or cannot focus on the economic crisis and impeachment hearings at the same time, will find that many answers to our economic and global defense problems will come from those hearings.

The only question I have for Nancy Pelosi is this: What are we waiting for?

---------------

If the House Democrats fail to hold Bush and Cheney accountable, they are unlikely to get you
Single payer Healthcare or anything else that will take courage to accomplish.

---------------
Obama advisers:
Bush era war criminals will walk.

No Accountability for Bush, CHENEY, Rumsfeld, Addington,

IF THAT PISSES YOU OFF

Call 800-828-0498
Ask for each of Colorado's Congressmen in turn and
tell them to file their own Impeachment Resolution
and to do it THIS WEEK. (Hint: leave a voicemail at night)

IF enough Congressmen file single crime impeachment resolutions during the same week (this week) it will get the attention of the Media.

Yes the MEDIA got Obama elected, and now are much more likely to pay attention to impeachment.

WE MUST GET PEOPLE RILED UP ENOUGH TO

DEMAND IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS

QUESTION: HOW MANY US SOLDIERS HAVE TO BE KILLED AND MAIMED FOR THE BUSH/CHENEY WMD LIES
Before Colorado Voters (you and me) bother to call the state's US Congressmen and Demand Impeachment Hearings NOW?

Hint: Over 4,197 Killed
Over 30,000 Maimed (some reports say it's over 70K)

..
....
The blockbuster claims that White House officials conspired to forge evidence linking Iraq to 9/11 plotters and ignored clear intelligence indicating Saddam Hussein's lack of WMDs may not be getting as much attention as it should in the US press, but some key lawmakers are beginning to take notice.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers says his staff will investigate these allegations and others aired in Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind's new book, The Way of the World: A Story of Truth and Hope in an Age of Extremism.

"I am particularly troubled that the decision to disseminate this fabricated intelligence is alleged to have come from the highest reaches of the administration," Conyers said in a press release Tuesday evening. "The administration's attempt to challenge Mr. Suskind's reporting appears to have been effectively dismissed by the publication of the author's interview recordings and transcripts. I have instructed my staff to conduct a careful review of Mr. Suskind's allegations and the role played by senior administration officials in this matter."

The announced probe garnered quick praise from Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who has waged a months-long campaign to convince his colleagues and Democratic leaders in the House to impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Suskind has said the allegations outlined in his book could be impeachable offenses.

The Bush Impeachment Resolution H Res 1258 was refered to the Judiciary Committee today. Nearly all Democrats voted for it to be buried in the Committee.

I find it very strange that an experienced legislator like Kucinich would not call for a vote on floor debate first (as he did with the Cheney Resolution), as opposed to instead calling for a vote to refer the measure directly to committee where he knows that no action will probably be taken, ever.

It is my belief that Kucinich was allowed to introduce the measure by Pelosi with the requirement ( or expectation) that the only vote would be one referring it to committee, which would then allow all House Democrats to claim they voted to study the resolution rather than vote to kill it. It is a smoke screen to make it plain to the voters and the media that the
impeachment issue is dead for good.

Once again the House Democrats prove they are not worthy to call themselves patriots.

The only way to get the House Democrats to honor their oath and protect the Constitution is to make them fear losing their jobs. Of course some of us don't have the willingness and courage to make that happen.

If attempting to impeach the President of the United States isn't "Breaking News", then what is?

"If CNN would have covered this important event, Americans could have tuned into C-Span and understood the many crimes that the Bush administration has perpetrated against the American public.

It is the lack of knowledge of the general public that has allowed President Bush to break our laws with impunity!

It is the enabling of news sources such as CNN that are partially responsible for this criminal administration, and they share in the blame of the many crimes that President Bush is guilty of."

And of course there is ProgressNowAction.org

On Tuesday I sent an email to ProgressNow asking to have my posting about the AOL.com Impeachment Poll placed on the Front Page so that members would have the best chance of knowing about the new legislation to Impeach President Bush, and would have the opportunity to vote in the AOL.com Impeachment Poll while it was still news. We were ignored, but the very next posting was placed on the Front Page, though not near as important as an Impeachment.

If an impeachment resolution isn't something that should get on the Front Page I cannot imagine what would be. How much do these people Hate Our Constitution that they will suppress important political event news. I do not think the word Hate is inappropriate. They have made it very plain that impeachment advocates should just shut up and go away.

Is ProgressNow attempting to dumb-down their members? Keep them in the dark about Bush's crimes? Do they provide this website so Progressives can discuss issues or so they can manipulate the members?

It would have been nice to at least get a reply to our email message.

Impeachment may not occur but it will not fail because of the Republicans but because of the corruption within the Democratic Party and organizations such as this one.

I have started a discussion on the Denver Post website about the Iraq War and how it relates to the current very serious economic downturn.

I believe that the pre-war WMD lies of Cheney and Bush are the root cause of the looming economic disaster we all face. Yes, there are other reasons, but this is the key cause.

The war disrupted oil supplies and that has caused the cost of food and fuel to rise tremendously, severely impacting family budgets and causing damaging high inflation.

I think our Congressmen need to act now to put the blame squarely on the two dangerous politicians who caused the misery, Cheney and Bush.

You can read the article and the comments here: Entitled: 4 in 5: U.S. steering off map.

This Denver Post article will be read by many in Colorado this week and I think you should include your comments on the Denver Post website as to whether or not our Congressmen should immediately call for Impeachment Hearings.

I believe Impeachment Hearings need to be held prior to the November election or the opportunity to repudiate all that Cheney and Bush have done to our Country, our Constitution and the Separation of Powers will be lost forever. Our House Democrats will want to move on with their careers after the election and will ignore the disastrous and unconstitutional actions of Cheney and Bush.

Please try to stay on topic and keep your comment short and to the point.

Should Congress start holding them accountable by holding Impeachment hearings on Vice President Cheney?

Yes or No! Make that the point of your comment

Your support by commenting on this article will make a difference.

John H Kennedy, organizer

Failure to hold impeachment hearings will mean that the Bush/Cheney crimes against our Constitution and Separation Of Powers will become precedent and more likely to be used by rogue future Presidents.

The next few months before the election may be our last chance to have any meaningful accountability brought against the Bush/Cheney Administration.
I posted a brief note here stating that Udall was supporting impeachment which linked to a page on our website
that just said "April Fool".

It was censored and deleted. This is not the first time the PNA staff has deleted postings which made comments about Udall that they did not like.

Is PNA's staff losing it's sense of humor or is only their version of progressive speech allowable on this website?

Is this organization really progressive if they censor opposing views?

What do you think?
During the week of November 5, Dennis J. Kucinich will introduce on the floor of the House of Representatives a bill to impeach Vice President Cheney(H Res 333). Exercising his right of personal privilege, his courageous act will put members of the House on record. Are they going to fulfill their oath of office to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic or just look the other way?

It only takes a simple majority in the House to Impeach. Cheney will resign before it leaves the House.

Pelosi's plan to pass a few popular bills and embarass Bush is only wasting time and getting soldiers killed and maimed.

MoveOn's Petition to: Stop Executive Overreach

MoveOn has distributed this Petition to tell Congress
to demand answers by Subpoena from the Bush administration
about the Iraq war and their illegal spying program, and not back down,
to hold Vice President Cheney in contempt of Congress
and send over the police if necessary,

And if that doesn't work, Impeach the guy.

Well done MoveOn, count me in and tell me what I can do get more Americans to sign this petition.

I hope all MoveOn members will sign this petition now! And have a Great Fourth Of July.

Dear MoveOn member,

You've probably seen the news this morning: President Bush let Cheney aide Scooter Libby, the one man who was convicted for the lies around the Iraq war, go free. Paris Hilton served more jail time than he will.

Bush and Cheney think their administration is above the law. That's un-American, and this July 4th it's time for Congress to re-assert its constitutional authority and
top the administration's obstruction of justice.

Congress can start until they get them. Cheney won't testify? Subpoena him. He won't come? Hold him in contempt of Congress and send over the police.

And if that doesn't work, impeach the guy.

We just can't let President Bush and his administration dismantle our Constitution.

This July 4th, it's time to bring checks and balances back again. Click here to sign the petition and send a message to Congress to act now (the text of the petition is in the box to the right):

Link

Then please send this message to your friends, family, and others who would be interested. This issue has everyone outraged--only 32 percent of Republicans agree with the president's decision.

This isn't just about the Bush administration, of course. Law is determined through precedent. If Congress doesn't rein the Bush administration in, it'll change the rules for every administration that comes after.

And letting Libby off the hook is only the most recent example of a consistent Bush administration pattern of obstruction of justice.

When their illegal program of warrantless wiretapping was revealed, the Bush administration refused to answer subpoenas from Congress to testify about what, precisely, they were doing. When Attorney General Alberto Gonzales--the nation's highest law-enforcement officer--testified in front of Congress under oath, he lied and said the program didn't exist.2

And in retrospect, it's clear what Bush meant when he said this about the Plame case back in 2003: "[I]f there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of."3 Last night, Bush certainly took care of Scooter Libby.

On Sunday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Pat Leahy said he would hold Cheney and others in the administration in contempt of Congress if they refused to directly answer questions. Members of Congress are asserting their authority and standing up.

But they need to know the American people are behind them. Can you take a moment to click this link and send that message right now?

Link

As they say in civics class, America is a country of laws, not of men. It's time for Congress to stand up and use them.

Let's celebrate Independence Day by reaffirming the basic, founding idea of our government: No one, not even the president of the United States , is above the law.

Thanks for all you do.

The Cheney Impeachment effort in the US House is moving forward.

Congresswoman Yvette Clark (D., NY) has joined Congress Members Jan Schakowsky, William Lacy Clay, Albert Wynn, and Dennis Kucinich in Co-Sponsoring Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney (H. Res. 333).

We now have 5 US Representatives backing Impeachment, Kucinich and 4 Co-Sponsors.

Kucinich will need more Co-Sponsors. If You care about the US Constitution and the US Soldiers who are dying and being maimed for Cheney's WMD lies You Should call Your Congressmen/women (at 800-828-0498) and demand that they become a Co-Sponsor on Kucinich's Impeach Cheney Bill.

Since Speaker Pelosi uttered her now infamous edict that 'impeachment is off the table' the movement toward impeaching any of the liars in the Bush Administration has grown slowly but it is growing. Recently Rep. Kucinich filed a Bill to impeach VP Cheney and it has taken off.

If Clinton can be impeached for a lie about sex, Cheney 'must be impeached' for lying about the reason for the Iraq Invasion and the 25,000 plus US Soldiers mained and the over 3,400 dead because of the lie.

None of the Colorado Democrats in Congress has offered support for impeaching Cheney.

They all deflect impeachment questions by saying things like: If we impeach Bush then Cheney will be president or we can't impeach because then Congress won't get anything else done.

Golly, if our state's representatives impeach Cheney then Cheney will never be president.

And not impeaching Bush gives them Bush to run against in Nov. '08. It is the best of all possible strategy for Democrats.

Show the international community we as a people repudiate Cheney and all he and his neocons stand for and coast into victory in '08 running
against Bush, the worst president American ever had.

Remember it is Bush's Iraq War but Cheney's manipulation of intelligence and WMD lies that gave Bush the opportunity to get Congress to vote for the invasion of Iraq.

The trial of Scooter Libby has produced overwhelming evidence that Vice President Cheney personally led the campaign to attack Joe Wilson through the media.

This "get Wilson" campaign included telling numerous reporters that Wilson was sent to Niger by his wife Valerie Plame, a CIA operative. Cheney was told by the CIA that Valerie Plame worked as a covert agent in the CIA's Nonproliferation Division, which is the critical division of the CIA responsible for stopping the spread of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. Is exposing a CIA agent a treasonable offence?

Cheney's efforts to expose Plame actually exposed her entire covert network, at tremendous cost to the CIA's secret war against terrorism. If Plame's work had been exposed by a double-agent in our government like Aldrich Ames or Robert Hanssen, that person would face prosecution for espionage and treason.

The evidence of Cheney's role is more than enough to start an impeachment investigation.

Real investigation will not start until Kucinich's Impeachment Bill is seriously considered by the House Judiciary Committee. Kucinich needs more Co-Sponsors to make that happen.

Now that Cheney's former Chief of Staff, Scooter Libby has been convicted and sentenced to 30 months in Federal Prison it is time to turn to his boss, Vice President Cheney. Is there a point where a Vice President who manipulates intelligence and facts about going to war commits treason?

Sure we're angry about the failure of the Democrats to stand up for
ending the Iraq occupation.

But what is the root cause of that anger, and where do we productively
DIRECT our anger so that the REAL problem is impacted?

It's not just this latest Iraq supplemental.

This is just the latest example of the failure of the (Democratic) Congress to actually confront the MANY Constitutional Outrages of the Cheney Administration.

That's right, we said

the Cheney Administration.

Bush is nothing more than a stooge . . . a hapless, snickering,
stubborn stooge perhaps, but a stooge nonetheless, who couldn't complete a
logical sentence in the English language without the talking points they
give him to rehearse and read from.

It is Cheney who dragged the country into invading Iraq, who was the
master chef in cooking the intelligence, who pushed for torture as
accepted U.S. foreign policy, who was the driving force behind the illegal
wiretaps, the unprecedented expansion of executive power, the outing of
Valerie Plame, who ordered the stand down of our air defenses on 9/11,
and is even now working overtime to plunge us into an even more
monumental debacle in Iran.

It's been all Cheney, all the time, since day one of this disastrous administration.

So why won't Congress (with the exception of Kucinich and the other 3
sponsors of H.R. 333) even talk about impeaching someone who has
committed every Constitutional high crime in the book?

Have you voted in the National Cheney Impeachment Poll yet? More then
50,000 of your friends and neighbors have,

but what about you?

Maybe there's 'your' complete answer.

Why would we expect Congress to act on what we want them to do unless we TELL them what we want them to do (and often)?

Why should we accuse them of not listening to the people(us), unless we
are actively talking to them.

Why should we be mad at them for not acting, UNLESS we force them to act.

A lot of people are calling their members of Congress right now to yell at them about the Iraq supplemental surrender. And we should join them
in that too.

But it's kinda like trying to put out a fire on one side of a room with someone pouring on more gasoline from the other side.

Unless we confront the REAL problem, Dick Cheney, and remove him from
power soon, the flames may be so high over our heads that we may no
longer be able to do anything about it. We are that close to a military
holocaust right now.

So DO call your members of Congress. at 800-828-0498

And let them know they have ZERO chance of getting elected again
themselves if they continue to vote for funding the Iraq sinkhole without accountability.

But the same time, and most importantly, demand that they step up and confront the Cheney Impeachment Imperative.

As long as Cheney is in the White House, Bush will just continue to arrogantly parrot the words Cheney feeds him, and we are in greater peril each successive day.

It's Cheney, folks. The problem is Cheney.

Please take action NOW

Call everyone in Congress... Call 800-828-0498
starting with your Congressman/woman and Speaker Pelosi

Tell they if they want to be relected and avoid a Primary Challenge they'd
