DENVER: The final installment in ProgressNow Colorado's "Top 5 Reasons Mike Coffman is Bad for CD-6" sums up incumbent Congressman Mike Coffman's record in one simple phrase: "wrong for Colorado's middle class."
"As the far-right representative of Tom Tancredo's former congressional district, Mike Coffman spent his first years in Congress insulated from the needs of Colorado's middle class," said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Joanne Schwartz. "But the Sixth District was dramatically changed last year during the redistricting process. In response to Colorado's changing population and suburban growth, the Sixth District now includes some of the most economically and politically diverse neighborhoods in this state."
"Mike Coffman's extreme-right values do not reflect the needs of the middle class families he is now asking to represent in Congress," said Schwartz.
Mike Coffman voted to privatize Medicare as part of the "Ryan Plan" GOP budget, and to slash funding for important education and health programs that middle class families rely on.
Mike Coffman called Social Security, the most essential safety net that exists for millions of Americans, a "Ponzi scheme."
Mike Coffman sponsored and supported legislation and ballot initiatives to redefine the crime of rape to only include so-called "forcible rape," as well as ban all abortions and even common forms of birth control.
"It's very simple," said Schwartz. "Coffman was able to get away with his backward and extremist agenda when he represented the district that sent Tom Tancredo to Congress year after year. But now that Coffman has to answer to a district that looks like America, it's obvious that he is a mismatch for the people he is asking to lead. That's why, after walking to victory over and over, Coffman is set to lose his seat next Tuesday."
