DENVER: The fifth installment of ProgressNow Colorado's "18 Holes With Joe Coors" campaign is concerns Joe Coors Jr.'s financial backing of a radical ballot initiative that was rejected by more than 70% of Colorado voters both times it has appeared on the ballot.
"In Joe Coors, Jr.'s latest television ad, a document appears over Coors' shoulder with Coors saying to the viewer, 'that's not me,'" said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Joanne Kron. "But that's a lie. That document is Joe Coors' signature on the so-called 'Personhood' ballot initiative, a radical ban on abortion and even many forms of birth control rejected overwhelmingly by Colorado voters in 2008 and 2010."
"Not only did Joe Coors help get this horrible initiative on the ballot, he actually donated money in support of the campaign to pass it," said Schwartz. "'Personhood' is an attack on the basic reproductive rights of millions of women in Colorado, and was rejected by an historic margin--over 70%--both times it appeared on the ballot. This year, backers couldn't even get enough signatures to try again. How can Joe Coors look any woman voter in the eye after supporting this backward initiative?"
"Joe Coors' support, financial and otherwise, for the radical 'Personhood' abortion ban is just another reason why he is not qualified to represent the Seventh District," said Schwartz.
