DENVER: As former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced his selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate today, ProgressNow Colorado, the state's largest online progressive advocacy organization, released the following statement:
"Choosing Paul Ryan is the clearest evidence yet that Mitt Romney doesn't care about America's middle class," said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Joanne Schwartz. "Ryan's controversial budget plans in Congress have set the standard for privatizing Medicare, gutting Social Security, and slashing support for virtually every institution Americans rely on for their health, safety, and security."
"Ryan's plans to privatize Medicare and slash funding for federal programs Americans rely on have terrified working families and senior citizens, and politically damaged Republicans in Congress--including Colorado's Republican delegation--who have supported him," said Schwartz.
"Now there can be no doubt," said Schwartz, "the Romney-Ryan vision for America is the privatization of Medicare. The Romney-Ryan vision for America is a generation of students mired in debt. The Romney-Ryan vision for America unravels protections for the public health, the environment, and fairness in the workplace we all take for granted. The Romney-Ryan vision for America is huge class sizes for our kids in public school, and the unfettered outsourcing of American jobs overseas."
"I don't know how Mitt Romney could have made a choice more out of touch with the people of Colorado," said Schwartz. "The Romney-Ryan vision is not of an America Coloradans ever hope to see."
