And we export what? $6.4 Billion of war toys to Taiwan.  China could swat Taiwan like a gnat.  BTW, anyone checking the containers coming in from China?  No need to, you know you don't bite the hand that feeds you.  Considering that we prop up "monarchs" in the Middle East and their people live lives of desperation is it any wonder there are a lot of pissed off Arabs?  Take Iraq for instance, production of 3.5 million barrels a day @ $70 a barrel would provide an annual income for every man, woman and child of $3,726.   When you spend upwards of $18 Billion on weapons (Saudi total) and dole out $ Billions to sons, daughters, wives, uncles and cousins, it tends to cut into the $3,726.   BTW about those Iraqi chemical weapons:"THE US and Britain sold Saddam Hussein the technology and materials Iraq needed to develop nuclear, chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction.

Reports by the US Senate's committee on banking, housing and urban affairs -- which oversees American exports policy -- reveal that the US, under the successive administrations of Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr, sold materials including anthrax, VX nerve gas, West Nile fever germs and botulism to Iraq right up until March 1992, as well as germs similar to tuberculosis and pneumonia. Other bacteria sold included brucella melitensis, which damages major organs, and clostridium perfringens, which causes gas gangrene."

The Senate report also makes clear that: 'The United States provided the government of Iraq with 'dual use' licensed materials which assisted in the development of Iraqi chemical, biological and missile-system programs.'

This assistance, according to the report, included 'chemical warfare-agent precursors, chemical warfare-agent production facility plans and technical drawings,...........................

.............The Senate report also makes clear that: 'The United States provided the government of Iraq with 'dual use' licensed materials which assisted in the development of Iraqi chemical, biological and missile-system programs.'

TIANJIN, China — China vaulted past competitors in Denmark, Germany, Spain and the United States last year to become the world’s largest maker of wind turbines, and is poised to expand even further this year.

China has also leapfrogged the West in the last two years to emerge as the world’s largest manufacturer of solar panels. And the country is pushing equally hard to build nuclear reactors and the most efficient types of coal power plants.

These efforts to dominate renewable energy technologies raise the prospect that the West may someday trade its dependence on oil from the Mideast for a reliance on solar panels, wind turbines and other gear manufactured in China.

“Most of the energy equipment will carry a brass plate, ‘Made in China,’ ” said K. K. Chan, the chief executive of Nature Elements Capital, a private equity fund in Beijing that focuses on renewable energy.

For the $663 Billion we are spending this year on defense, we could build 2,652- 64 MW solar concentrators and produce a total of 169 GigaWatts of electricity. For $663 Billion you could install 82 million roof top photovoltaic panels @ $8000 each. There are 129 million housing units in the US. For $663 Billion you could erect 236,785 wind turbines with a capacity of 473 giga watts.

For $663 Billion could pay a four year college tuition @ $16,000 for 41 million students.

For $663 Billion you could build 1,326 Veterans Administration hospitals @ $500 million each. That works out to 26 new, state of the art hospitals per state.

For $663 Billion you could build 2,882 L.A. Class high schools at $230 Million each. That works out to 57 per state. For Colorado that is almost one per county.

For $663 Billion -16,575 miles of high speed rail line at $40 million per mile. About 331 miles per state.

For $663 Billion 13,260 miles of light rail at $50 Million per mile. For the 50 largest cities in the US, that is 265 miles for each city.

For $663 Billion -29 million Toyota Prius automobiles, 10 percent of registered autos in the US saving 37 million gallons per day of the 378 million gallons per day the US consumes. That works out to 13.8 Billion gallons a year or 776 million barrels of oil producing 18 gallons of gasoline per barrel. That represent 128 days of OPEC imports at 5.95 million barrels per day. That is $30 Billion is almost 5% of the $667 Billion annual trade deficit or another 1.3 million hybrids built right here in the US.

For $663 Billion you could feed 363 million impoverished people for a year at $5 per day. There are 963 million malnourished people in the world.

For $663 Billion you could build 1.326 million hybrid buses at $500,000 each. That works out to 26,520 buses per state.

For $663 Billion you can purchase over 66 million top of the line, street legal golf carts at $10,000 each. 1.326 million for each of America's top 50 cities or all 50 states.

For $663 Billion -2,833 Minneapolis I-35 Bridges at $234 Million each. 56 new bridges for every state in the union.

For $663 Billion- 697 Sears Towers at $950 million each. That is 13 for every state in the union.

For $663 Billion- 110 million water wells 500 feet deep at $12 a foot ($6000 each). Enough to supply a well for every nine people in Africa. Total population one billion people.

The annual profit for Lockheed Martin in 2009, $32.665 Billion. Lockheed employs 140,000 people and represents 5% of the defense budget. Assuming that 140,000 employees represent 5% of the civilian defense labor force, that total would be 2.8 million and would represent almost 2% of the total US labor force. The total US labor force is 154 million. All things considered Ford Motor Company has twice the employees as Lockheed, three times the sales and a negative profit. I suspect Ford represents a capitalist enterprise and Lockheed is a government supported, monopolistic enterprise.

Last, even though the list could be endless, $663 Billion a year is $2,195 annually for every man, woman and child in the US. For a family of four that amounts to an extra $731 a month. Enough to raise the standard of living substantially.

 

DENVER: As citizens from around Colorado gathered today at the state capitol, asking Big Business to pay their fair share to help balance Colorado's budget, ProgressNow Colorado Executive Director Bobby Clark released the following statement:
 
"Working families, senior citizens and students around the state are making hard sacrifices to protect the vital public services we all depend on, and suspending a small percentage of the tax breaks for business that cost Colorado billions of dollars every year is not too much to ask for.
 
It was dismaying, but not surprising, to hear today that former Congressman Scott 'McLobbyist' McInnis has weighed in on the side of Big Business and against Colorado's middle class families, praising business' lobbying efforts to kill this important budget-balancing legislation. Instead of paying their fair share to help balance Colorado's budget, business lobbyists actually proposed charging sales tax on groceries and medicine--a move that would cause true hardship around the state, hitting those who can least afford higher taxes the hardest. What's more, McInnis fails once again to provide an alternative that would enable the state to meet its obligations.
 
Scott McInnis and his Big Business lobbyist friends should be ashamed of themselves for proposing we tax the neediest Colorado families before they give up a single one of their precious corporate giveaways. It's unconscionable, and the voters of Colorado won't stand for it."

 

Comity of Errors

Perhaps a little more Jeremiah Wright anger is in order. A Marine, a Navy Corpsman and a black man, he paid his dues and has every right to dissent.. Wikipedia Jeremiah Wright controversy Hillary Clinton said, 'you can't pick your family, but you can choose your what church you attend.' She went on to say later in the day that Jeremiah Wright would not have been her pastor. (I know what kind of pastor she apparently favors, those without the courage to speak truth to power) Most of what Wright said about America was true. Americans don't take too kind to criticism of their foreign policy, their domestic policies or their history. We have drunk deeply from the cup of American exceptionalism, our pride a cruel joke exceeded only by our belligerence and poor eye sight. MC

WASHINGTON--It turns out there were core contradictions in the promises Barack Obama made to the country in 2008. They caught up with his party on Tuesday in Massachusetts.
Things will not get easier. Republicans in Congress will be empowered to hold to their course of obstruction by Sen.-elect Scott Brown's victory. Washington will remain the object of scorn as a dysfunctional capital, and absent a new Obama approach, the GOP can act with the confidence that only Democrats will pay a price for the failure of comity.

"Last year the president pointedly studied J.F.K.’s decision-making process on Vietnam while seeking the way forward in Afghanistan. In the end, he didn’t emulate his predecessor and escalated the war. We’ll see how that turns out.  Meanwhile, Obama might look at another pivotal moment in the Kennedy presidency — and this time heed the example.

The incident unfolded in April 1962 — some 15 months into the new president’s term — when J.F.K. was infuriated by the U.S. Steel chairman’s decision to break a White House-brokered labor-management contract agreement and raise the price of steel (but not wages). Kennedy was no radical. He hailed from the American elite — like Obama, a product of Harvard, but, unlike Obama, the patrician scion of a wealthy family. And yet he, like that other Harvard patrician, F.D.R., had no hang-ups about battling his own class.

Kennedy didn’t settle for the generic populist rhetoric of Obama’s latest threats to “fight” unspecified bankers some indeterminate day. He instead took the strong action of dressing down U.S. Steel by name. As Richard Reeves writes in his book “President Kennedy,” reporters were left “literally gasping.” The young president called out big steel for threatening “economic recovery and stability” while Americans risked their lives in Southeast Asia. J.F.K. threatened to sic his brother’s Justice Department on corporate records and then held firm as his opponents likened his flex of muscle to the power grabs of Hitler and Mussolini. (Sound familiar?) U.S. Steel capitulated in two days. The Times soon reported on its front page that Kennedy was at “a high point in popular support.”"

After the Massachusetts Massacre

It was not a referendum on Barack Obama, who in every poll remains one of the most popular politicians in America. It was not a rejection of universal health care, which Massachusetts mandated (with Scott Brown’s State Senate vote) in 2006. It was not a harbinger of a resurgent G.O.P., whose numbers remain in the toilet. Brown had the good sense not to identify himself as a Republican in either his campaign advertising or his victory speech.

Corporate Sponsorship of Legislators

The Supreme Court decision to allow unlimited corporate ads in support of candidates may well bring clarity to the political landscape. We can envision the corporation providing the most support to a candidate to receive "naming rights," so we could have a Pfizer Senator from OH or a Humana Representative from TN for example. Lesser corporate contributors could be recognized through logos on accessories such as lapel pins, ties, scarves, etc.

"An informed citizenry is the bulwark of a democracy."

 

Put Your Money Where Your Politics Are

A lot to chew on below, but as we all know, having a "D" by your name is mostly superficial, as in DINO. Looking at the campaign finances of Shumer, for example, shows him to be the biggest Wall Street whore in the universe. I and others see the real party, one of entitlement, nepotism and cronyism. Look at Martha Coakley of Massachusetts, similar credentials to Salazar and Ritter, neither hot nor cold, just party hacks (a political party member who serves the party uncritically and in a routine capacity). The times call for LEADERSHIP, nothing less will do, leaders attract great public servents and put the "act" in activism. MC

Considering the anti-labor, anti-welfare, anti-social justice, anti-environment tilt in our corporacracy, one might consider the Preamble of the Constitution. Also coinsider the significance of SCOTUS decisions, perhaps a 5 to 4 split is not good enough.

Judicial relevance of the Preamble

The courts have shown interest in any clues they can find in the Preamble regarding the Constitution's meaning. Courts have developed several techniques for interpreting the meaning of statutes and these are also used to interpret the Constitution. As a result, the courts have said that interpretive techniques which focus on the exact text of a document should be used in interpreting the meaning of the Constitution, so the Preamble provides additional language against which to compare other parts of the Constitution. Balanced against these techniques are those that focus more attention on broader efforts to discern the meaning of the document from more than just the wording; the Preamble is also useful for these efforts to identify the "spirit" of the Constitution. You Don't Always Die From Tobacco

Once again, Romanoff demarcates himself as starkly different from the current, appointed Senator who was never tested by Colorado's electorate. Unlike Bennet, Romanoff won't accept PAC money, relying instead on Colorado voters to build a sound, untainted campaign fund.

Romanoff truly earned the support of Colorado's more than 420,000 veterans through his work in the Colorado General Assembly on their behalf. Veterans who would like to know more about his commitment to this population can speak with any legislative leader of the United Veterans Committee of Colorado (an umbrella organization of more than 50 Colorado veterans groups) to learn full details of his record of service to veterans over many years.

Colorado veterans have pleaded with Bennet to work for urgent Senate action on the backlog of nearly one million disability compensation and other claims filed by Iraq, Afghanistan and other veterans across the nation. There is scant evidence he has done so. While the backlog began growing wildly under the Bush Administration after it elected to go to war unnecessarily with Iraq, Democrats have controlled Congress for long enough now to have no excuse for this tragic situation to continue, leaving millions of severely, even profoundly disabled veterans unable to feed, house and cloth themselves and their loved ones.

Our congressional delegations' half-measures in connection with this issue alone leave Colorado veterans with a very bad taste in their mouths. We remember their assurances to veterans during their campaigns in 2004 and 2006. Do we like the Republicans on veterans issues? Hell no! But we need public servants who have a measurable track record of REAL service to veterans! Honestly, we don't need more lip service, nor lectures from their staff (as I received from Senator Bennet's veterans aid at a recent groundbreaking ceremony) about awards they have presented to the American Legion reflecting their 'deep concern' about Colorado veterans.

Veterans can't feed their children with a plaque or certificate of appreciation from their appointed Senator sitting in a veterans office display case. They need elected public officials who have a history of putting up or shutting up, who will fight for them and their families a mere fraction as hard as they fought for their nation.

Then ask this question: What has Senator Bennet actually done (substantively) to get disabled veterans and their loved ones past this monumental backlog?

Whatever happened to 50 + 1?

I could not agree more with Joe Biden stating: "No democracy has survived needing a supermajority."

While I fundamentally disagree with doing away with the Senate filibuster, but I do agree with modifying it to a 50 + 1 or 55 vote to end filibusters.

The modern Republican party has become the Clown hall party because they were never serious in participating in the democratic process of legislating and governing a nation.  Or else why would they come to agreement not to work with the Democratic party for saving our economy, for fixing a broken health care system, or in giving funding for our national security?  For them the priority is placing their party above all else and damn the consequences for the nation.

 

 

Because we are the good guys, "It depends on what the meaning of is is." Is we torturing or is we not?  If it looks, sounds, smells like a rat, it probably is.

What I would do if I were President

As President of the United States I would::..

(WITH RESPECT TO DOMESTIC POLICY):

Let the nation and the world know that "constantly worrying about how much something is going to cost" is not very helpful if we are serious about solving the real problems in our society.

We will need to face up to and work towards a holistic solution to all of societies ills all at once and not use the tired and worn out "same old - same old" financial band-aid treatments that make everyone think momentarily that we are solving problems since it's obviously... "far too complicated" to take them on all at once". Thinking things are too complicated is dysfunctional thinking and lacks imagination and the bold and decisive empowerment needed for enlightened action!

I would say to the world that we need to begin a process of spiritual healing (each in our own individual manner) so that we can (as a nation) tap into the Higher Powers of Spirituality to help us find solutions to societies ills.

I would strongly urge Congress (both the House and the Senate) to set up and pass a bill that would give immediate financial aid to all who are in danger of foreclosure on their homes in such a way that they and no one else can be forced out of their homes due to default on existing loans.

This same bill would have a provision for all to renegotiate their loans with their bank or lending institution in such a way as to allow and require affordable payments to be made in return for a permanent stopgap on responsible homeowner foreclosures.

I would strongly urge Congress to set up and pass a bill that would help all those who have already lost their homes due to catastrophic loss of income (job loss, medical expense, etc. to negotiate a way to maintain basic food, clothing and shelter until they are able to recover economically in a more substantial manner.

Work towards eliminating tax breaks and other financial windfalls for the wealthy, and channel that money to organizations that help the poor find employment and assistance to their immediate needs of food, clothing, shelter and health care, etc...

I would also begin negotiating a Federal Assistance Employment Program designed in principle like the Peace Corps was set up, but have it work in our own country to offer employment and training for young people to serve from 2 to 4 or more years to help strengthen our country's infrastructure and services communities instead of being forced to join the military just to have employment.

State unequivocally that an entirely new Energy Policy will shortly be in the works that will quickly phase out global dependence on fossil fuels, and in its place provide for the development of the most promising and efficient clean alternative energy technologies available, including the Space Energy Access Systems (SEAS) Program, Zero Point Energy, and related high tech clean alternatives.

I would give the go-ahead and financial support to Dr. Steven Greer, staff of the Disclosure Project and others who are in a position to publicly acknowledge and develop prototypes of new forms of energy that have already been developed by the covert government, but have thus far been withheld from public knowledge.

I would announce a whole new approach to HealthCare Reform by announcing the creation of a (complete public option oriented) National Health Insurance Coverage and Holistic Health Maintenance Program for every man, woman and child in America to be established and put into effect ASAP… to be extended to other nations in a realistic timeline for the purpose of eventually establishing a global network of health insurance and maintenance plans for every person on planet Earth. I would state unequivocably that we as a nation ARE NOT TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE COST, because if we do not get this, THE COST OF THE ALTERNATIVE WILL BE FAR AND AWAY...MUCH GREATER!, and then I would explain why that would be the case... on several National Press Conferences in PRIME TIME Television for the entire world to consider.

Announce that I will work with Congress to produce comprehensive legislation that will guarantee employment that truly contributes to the welfare of the nation, and provides adequate income for all who wish to hold a responsible job including a realistic minimum wage allowance for the purpose of providing at least the basics of food, clothing, shelter and health care for every child, woman and man in America – to eventually be extended globally to the entire planet.

Work towards developing and maintaining a Public Works Program to help legal immigrants and others find meaningful employment in projects that work for the common good such as improvements to highway and building infrastructures, public housing, environmental protection and improvement programs, greatly increased and coordinated comprehensive recycling efforts and other projects to preserve our natural resources.

Work for powerful legislation through Congress to protect our environment from further deterioration by pollution and uncontrolled usage of global natural resources.

Work towards a revamp of our criminal justice system so that true justice for every man woman and child in America (eventually to be extended to a global justice system) will soon become a reality.

(WITH RESPECT TO FOREIGN POLICY):

Announce to the world that our national and world leaders have been under the influence and control by a covert World Government (whimsically known as the New World Order) entrenched in our world society for a long time that continues to plunder from the masses and control the leaders of the masses and stifle any meaningful progress towards a peaceful world society, and that it is now time for we as a people to first recognize that the NWO exists, who they are and then stand up and state to them that we will no longer accept or respond to their energy of fear and deception that prevents true freedom and prosperity to reign on this planet.

Adolph Hitler tried to get control of the world through military force and failed. The NWO is trying to do the same thing clandesinely and covertly through fear and deception, and thankfully they too will fail.

Their means of operation is using global manipulation of money and power, fear and deception and getting many to believe there is a constant and urgent necessity of fighting the so-called terrorists "over there" so we don't have to fight them "over here". - (like the Taliban and the Al-Quaida for example.

This kind of thinking has kept our nation and world society enslaved for generation after generation, and now we are finally waking up!

Begin a series of Press Conferences and Town Hall Meetings with many state leaders and world leaders to pull back the shrouds of secrecy on all government cover ups including a top-priority peaceful disclosure of the overwhelming and continuing evidence of visitations and presence of benevolent extraterrestrials who wish to join with us in developing a world of peace, cooperation and intergalactic communication with planet Earth.

I would state unequivocally, that all of our U.S. Military and support personnel will begin an immediate pullout from Iraq and Afghanistan, with complete withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan to be completed within the next 12 months. This would acknowledge that Iraq and Afghanistan military and governments would be obligated to provide for their own defense during the phase down, and after all U.S. forces are eventually withdrawn. The plan would have all U.S. forces, civilian contract personnel, women and children and others that want to leave Iraq and Afghanistan to be unequivocally out of Iraq and Afghanistan within the next 12 months.

While these efforts are in process, I would begin a series of News Conferences from the Oval Office to be broadcast via television to the population of the entire planet stating that extremely serious errors in judgment were made by our former President and his advisors, and it is now time to call upon the leaders of all nations as well as the leaders of all the so-called terrorist groups to begin the process of global healing through global cooperation.

In these News Conferences, I would state that we are no longer interested in "Winning a "War against Terrorism", because quite simply, this whole "terrorist" idea has been a sham from the beginning, orchestrated by members of a shadow government known as the Cabal or Illuminati who have attempted to set up a New World Order to the detriment of the masses and who have controlled the leaders of our planet to consistently lie to us to maintain a global environment of fear, hate and frustration for many generations.

Thankfully the Cabal itself is now quite frustrated as they continue to lose their grip and control of the population of planet Earth. Many are beginning to embrace the Light of Truth, and finally starting to turn their backs on Fear by exercising their Personal Power and Potential for embracing Truth, Love, Justice, Peace and Global Cooperation. These energies are now beginning to take over as replacements for hundreds of years of Cabalistic Tyranny.

I would state that the whole idea of "war" is now quite antiquated for planet Earth, and it is now time to "Dismantle and Phase out the tyranny of the Cabal by standing up and saying to them in effect- "You no longer control this planet!"

State my intention to establish a well thought out and comprehensive effort for a GLOBAL PEACE PLAN, to begin immediately, working together with all parties concerned as much as possible, (including members of the Cabal) who finally see the Light of Truth) for Global Peace, Global Justice, Global Trust, Mutual Respect and Recognition of the Economic Needs of all people in every country throughout the world.

Make it very clear to the so-called "Terrorists", that we no longer fear them, we no longer consider any of them true "Terrorists", and that we intend to work with them toward the goal of removing any further motivation for hate and revenge by a determined effort to speak and demonstrate the Light of Truth that promises an eventual Paradise World for every man, woman and child on the face of this planet in a relatively short period of time. As stated by Dr. Steven Greer and many others, this is also known as the Golden Age, soon to be upon us.

Make it very clear to everyone that these are not "Pie in the Sky musings," but rather - very realistic goals achievable through global cooperation, mutual trust and economic assistance to the masses (including even the so-called Terrorists). Requirement: A shift in attitude from "No We Can't" to "YES WE CAN!"...Maybe we can even win over our friend "You Betcha!" to join us and put her energy into something more positive and meaningful for the good of all!

Colorado's budget shortfal is $1.4 billion, California's shortfall is $42 billion. The total short fall for all states combined – $192.6 billion. Dividing the total TARP money by 50 states, $780 Billion, you come up with a whopping $15.6 Billion per state.

The Other Plot to Wreck America

THERE may not be a person in America without a strong opinion about what coulda, shoulda been done to prevent the underwear bomber from boarding that Christmas flight to Detroit. In the years since 9/11, we’ve all become counterterrorists. But in the 16 months since that other calamity in downtown New York — the crash precipitated by the 9/15 failure of Lehman Brothers — most of us are still ignorant about what Warren Buffett called the “financial weapons of mass destruction” that wrecked our economy. Fluent as we are in Al Qaeda and body scanners, when it comes to synthetic C.D.O.’s and credit-default swaps, not so much.

What we don’t know will hurt us, and quite possibly on a more devastating scale than any Qaeda attack. Americans must be told the full story of how Wall Street gamed and inflated the housing bubble, made out like bandits, and then left millions of households in ruin. Without that reckoning, there will be no public clamor for serious reform of a financial system that was as cunningly breached as airline security at the Amsterdam airport. And without reform, another massive attack on our economic security is guaranteed. Now that it can count on government bailouts, Wall Street has more incentive than ever to pump up its risks — secure that it can keep the bonanzas while we get stuck with the losses.

"The Long Black Veil"

And illegal is NOT a sick bird and is there anything wrong with justice and liberty for all?  The NY Times editorial makes me mindful of an old Johnny Cash song, "The Long Black Veil" When it comes to justice in America, executing or imprisoning the wrong man seems to slake the thirst for revenge. MC

"Anyone who doubts the degree of  (Obama) executive branch pliability in this realm needs to consider this: The party that urged the Supreme Court not to grant the victims’ appeal because the illegality of torture was not “clearly established” was the Obama Justice Department.".

Yes, It Was Torture, and Illegal

Bush administration officials came up with all kinds of ridiculously offensive rationalizations for torturing prisoners. It’s not torture if you don’t mean it to be. It’s not torture if you don’t nearly kill the victim. It’s not torture if the president says it’s not torture.

It was deeply distressing to watch the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit sink to that standard in April when it dismissed a civil case brought by four former Guantánamo detainees never charged with any offense. The court said former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and the senior military officers charged in the complaint could not be held responsible for violating the plaintiffs’ rights because at the time of their detention, between 2002 and 2004, it was not “clearly established” that torture was illegal.
